From suffering through a whole semester with a bad professor, getting drenched in the rain because you didn't bring an umbrella, to setting off the smoke alarm and forcing your whole dorm to evacuate at 2am cause you tried to melt chocolate in the microwave, I've laid out all the embarrassing mistakes I made my freshman year of college, so you don't have to make them.

Even as an 8th grader, I can confirm that checking your grades online is the most crucial thing to do

There are SOME 3 hour classes that are gems! It’s all down to the professor you have.

I had a 3 hour Ancient Roman Law class on Fridays; sounds like absolute hell, but the professor was so nice and thoughtful! He only had ONE assignment for the whole course you could submit whenever (and that was only because he was required to assign a grade) and if you didn’t like your grade he’d let you redo it. We spent the class going over interesting texts and cases, and he’d spend time talking about them and going through them; his emphasis was on you being there to learn and not to earn a grade. It doesn’t hurt that he’s also one of the world’s foremost experts in his field. I’m hopefully gonna be doing research with him soon!

So the lesson here is don’t immediately ignore a class with an inconvenient time, because it can really change everything for you in a positive way!

Another piece of advice is don't be too proud and think you can do everything on your own.
A lot of colleges offer free tutoring, help with classes, choosing out classes along with other stuff but you have to go ask for it or see if it's available.

As someone who isn’t even close to college I can confirm I think these tips are very good

8 ams arent half bad if you're a morning person like me. yes i do love my sleep and would prefer to sleep in, but now my body normally wakes itself up at like 5 am, so i can study and then get ready for class. + the school is super empty at 8 am and u dont have people walking slow in front of u. i do agree w the back to back classes tho. imagine being hungry for hours at a time because u only have 15 min gaps between classes and you have to stand in a line to get food or food is on the opposite side of campus. at least give urself an hour between classes

as someone who still has at least 4-5 years until I could even consider it, these tips were real good 👍

A big one I've noticed is showing up to lectures but not tutorials. They can't take attendance for a 200 person lecture so they take attendance for your "participation marks" at your tutorials with your TA. And don't ignore your TA as a resource, they're also in school just like you so they understand how to help you with issues more than your prof might.

With the buying textbooks one, my sister would print the books she needed. So all she had to do is check out the books, photocopy them, and only paid a few bucks for books that were $30 to $40 minimum.

I'd argue to do the four back to back classes if you are commuting. It sucks to be in class that long, but if it means only having to make the commute twice a week, it saves so much time.

Okay he's going about this like everyone is going to name known Universities, though the rest of this is helpful. Let me just tell you, if you go to a small University, rate my professor doesn't always have your professors on there. I tried using that website and none of my professors are on there, just letting y'all know because honestly just talking to faculty (tutors, other profs even) can give you opinions about the professors you're wondering about. Also he's completely right about the railing for the lofted beds, even just a $25 baby gate railing works.

Hi Scott, Thank you for making college videos to help college students in any/every way. These could come in handy as I'm about to start College soon.

Watching this knowing I chose to take an advanced class at 8 am twice a week (in my defense it’s for my major and will hypothetically be better for my learning type) 0:03

Watching this while signing up for classes. All of the offered classes are once a week and 4 hours long 😭
