A new era begins for Lexus under the vision of ‘Lexus Electrified’

The all-new RZ brings a unique Lexus driving experience based on the ‘Lexus Electrified’ vision
Using a new all-wheel drive system called DIRECT4, RZ offers drivers a refined, human-centered driving experience
A design pursuing a uniquely Lexus BEV identity and proportions, born from a dynamic driving experience
Advanced safety technologies and omotenashi features based on a human-centered approach

Lexus is proud to unveil details of the all-new 2023 #RZ450e, the luxury brand’s first global Battery EV (BEV).

Since the launch of the RX400h in 2005, Lexus has been a pioneer of electrification within the luxury market. As with the first RX hybrid model, Lexus engineers have imbued the brand’s hybrid vehicles with an excellent driving identity and environmental performance. Under the ‘Lexus Electrified’ vision, Lexus aims to invigorate all guests’ authentic love for driving exhilaration, and in doing so, will broaden its Lexus Electrified portfolio of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) products to exceed the needs and expectations of a more diverse set of luxury buyers.

The portfolio expansion will move Lexus toward another essential goal: The realization of a sustainable global society. Lexus will contribute to achieving a carbon-neutral society by offering a full lineup of BEVs in all categories by 2030. Five years later, Lexus seeks to attain 100% BEV sales globally. To meet these challenges, Lexus will rigorously improve its products, along with the expertise of its personnel, by repeating “drive and fix” development at Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama (TTCS), Lexus’ new operational base.

Despite being disappointed about range distance, I love everything about RZ. I understand that RZ is not like the cutting-edge tech show-off of Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Tesla. Nor rush to follow the trend like Genesis, Kia, Jaguar, Ford, GM, or VW. It has developed and built maximized quality control, drivability as an EV, and last long reliability. Toyota doesn't focus on competitors; instead, they pay attention to consumers' valuable experience in the long run. I would want to test drive RZ. I do not favor a bi-tone color scheme, but I love all about Lexus RZ so far. This is LEXUS.

I expect a lot of former and current Lexus owners who bought a Tesla to trade it in for one of these. This will be a hot car with huge demand.
Range is a little disappointing but at least it's a lot better looking than the BZ4X.

I was impressed with how refined and quiet the bz4x is.. can’t wait for this to hit the market!

This could finally be the EV to get me to stop commuting in my '99 SC400. Looking forward to driving it. Great overview, thanks!

The interior is really similar to the NX. Lexus did a great job on the design in my opinion. And on the Lexus japan website, the cruising range is quoted as 450km EPA which is 280miles. The pricing might be around 60, 00 to 65, 000$ in the US but in other markets like Japan, it'll be in the high 80s for sure. My RX 450h came to around 9 and a half million Japanese yen which is around 85, 000$ USD and you can get one for 65-70k in us.

This car seems to be attracting attention for its cornering performance with Direct4 and steer-by-wire, which were developed at the Shimoyama Test Course in Aichi Prefecture, which is modeled after the Nürburgring. The interior also looks comparable to the NX. We look forward to Kirk's test drive review.

Looks fantastic. Just like the BZ4x, conservative appearing specs but excellent as a package. Can't wait for your driving impressions.

Looks really good especially that interior

You were spot on for the power figures - and as for battery I do wonder if we will not get what you expected in the first place …later when the sourcing of battery cells gets better, it would make sense

I'm curious what the trim lineup will be like as the press release mentions no F SPORT nameplate. Will they shift to E SPORT naming for the "performance" versions/packages?

Lexus did a good job 👍🏽. As for the brand's first proper EV, I think it is a success. I really like the design of the exterior and interior. More than 300 horsepower is enough for normal circumstances. Although the range is little short, but I think it is good enough for daily commute. Maybe there will be a long range version in the near future.

I'm looking forward to the "RZ 250e" with the same drive train setup as the BZ4X. Would be great if Lexus would consider that option imho

Glad the dive and pitch on this vehicle is very good I recently drove my friends brand new 2022 Nissan Rogue and it was pretty noticeable when putting the brakes on hard.

I really suspect that the range anxiety thing had something to do with Mr. Moriso himself saying that it was too heavy, if y'all remember the previous Rz prototype shown looked different and I suspect had more heavier batteries.

I think South Africa will only start getting the RZ 450e five or 10 years later since our EV infrastructure footprint its still not readily available

Thankfully the exterior and interior aren't stupid ev looking. Meaning it looks like any old Lexus car which is great.

That two tone paint with the light blue paint and black out greenhouse and black hood looks really sleek, almost like the LF-Z concept. It looks like it might have larger wheels also (20") compared to the standard version. I really hope they make this an F Sport version with more range and power, but its unlikely they are going to do that at first. The 225 mile range is really disappointing, especially when the Kia EV 6 can get 275 to 310 miles. The Mustang Mach E GT and Kia EV 6 GT are the high performance versions so hopefully Lexus makes a higher trim model also.

I like it overall, definitely worth considering if the 360km is enough for you. The biggest question is the price.

Considering the price and the range, I personally have made my decision to go with the IS350 and wait for the future sport sedan ev.
