Unpaid carers save the UK £193 billion a year and there are more unpaid carers than there are paid NHS carers. Many of us are highly skilled and have been forced to give up careers. Carer’s allowance “isn’t designed to fully replace earnings” but there are almost no employment rights for carers and there is no help to pay for care for our loved ones if we want to access work. It’s a disgrace. To add insult to injury, people like Priti Patel talk about you as if you’re a parasite that needs forced back into work. I’d love to go back to work. I haven’t had a full night’s sleep in a couple of decades. I’d love to see her in that situation so she can get a dose of reality.

During lockdown I had the person I cared for 24/7 I desperately needed help and got none.... my relative has since sadly passed away, as like thousands of others they could not see a GP and passed away from undiagnosed then had to go and find a job as a grief stricken diabetic 53 year old in order to keep a roof over my treat unpaid carers dreadfully and in their hour of need abandon them...God bless anyone in this situation x
