Don’t understand how this series isn’t number 1 on Apple TV. Great summary.

I just wanted to say I appreciate your work. I actually started this show because you are reviewing it. In my opinion you are the best when it comes to shows. Keep up the great work.

Great episode in my opinion! My theory is Masa and zen aren't dead and are alive BUT the ending part where Suzie "FInds zen" and sunny kills that guy, wasn't real. I think suzie is in so much pain that she hallucinated it or she's in the hospital because she fell super hard running or maybe got knocked out from the Yakuza. Again JUST a theroy, but I do think zen and Masa are safe as Masa wannted to make it seem that he was going onto the plane somehow knowing the plane would crash so it would seem as he's dead so the Yakuza would stop chasing him. Thats just my theroy, and I love how this episode goes over Masa's backstory and he doesn't seem as back as we are led to believe.

There were a few clues throughout that allude to a few possible explanations of the final scene. When they do the close-up on her face, we hear a drilling or whirring sound. Just before that, she has a “gun” to her head. I replayed that scene and it looks like a typical albeit large black hand gun (I’m no expert but it looks longer than a Glock, say). We saw a scene with the Yakuza woman earlier in the season where it seemed like they were experimenting with drilling directly into someone’s head, from the side just like that. In this final scene, it adds up. Her eyes flooded with PAIN (which we are led to believe is a major theme in this episode), and then she experiences a hallucination of sorts, perhaps a simulation. I think it’s something along those lines but I’m not sure what that ultimately means for all of our characters… especially little Zen. 😢

Japanese philosophy is so different and subtle. It seems like a very intellectual culture with so many layers. And this show about a missing father and son is really about a whole lot more. The second half of the season keeps adding on more and more levels of complexity, to the point where it gets metaphysical.

I didn’t understand the ending. The yakuza put some plan into action, they drew Suzi to them, and, well, something happened. An implant? The opening animation would seem to allude to that. I’m just hoping the last two episodes are going to tie up the loose ends.

I was confused also at the end. My thought what if it has all been a dream. Like maybe they had put suzie into an induced coma or sleep maybe to keep her safe idk. I know it doesn’t make sense . Or they put her into an induced sleep because she didn’t take her husband and son dying well and they medically did that to help?

The show is getting as weird as the book. But the show is soo much better.

Is this a one season show only? Because if not I really dont think they will make a season 2 so I hope it just ends properly

I'm not sure how I feel about this episode. There were some beautiful parts that developed Masa's character and moved the plot forward. BUT, I could've done without the extended scene of Masa trashing the house like a petulant child. And his drinking copious amounts of coffee and booze didn’t do it for me. Great review as usual!
