Ask your local vet for a calcium supplement for feeding Magpies. Making friends is better than all-out War.

Major errors un this short: Australian magpies aren't in the crow family, they aren't corvids at all. The unrelated European Magpie is a corvid. There is also a picture of a mud lark attacking a person's eye, which is not an Australian magpie either.

Just befriend them prior to breeding season. They remember friends. They also remember enemies.

They are not crow family.
Closest relatives are Currawong and Butcher Bird.
I used to have a pet magpie, they are incredibly intelligent and brilliant mimicked.

“Don’t make eye contact” is debatable. They are actually less likely to swoop you if they see that they’re being watched. Some people actually wear hats with eyes painted on top when walking through their territory during nesting season.

Magpies are so bloody Intelligent it's scary sometimes! But they're really incredible birds.
Where I live, we have a somewhat similar seasonal issue, but here it's not magpies...it's hummingbirds! I kid you not. The mothers will get downright vicious and SO fearless when they have a nest nearby! They will swoop right at your head & face, making this little angry "beep beep!" battlecry.
I had one build a nest in the tree next to my front door one year, and I had to let people coming over know to cover their heads and take care. At least most of the bees & fire ants where I live won't bother you unless you directly threaten their nest, because the hummingbirds are enough to watch out for! I once even had one angry mama hummingbird chase me into my own house...twice!! In the same day, no less!

Befriend them and they're harmless. A little cheeky, but harmless.

Is there any animal in Australia that doesn’t want to kill us?

Lad I got swooped and almost lost an eye. They will take it if they can.

The part of telling others about you was scary 😮

PSA: "Don't make eye contact with the birds" is terrible advice. They are like the Boos in Mario games, they won't attack while you're looking at them.

Magpies are adorable! I have one sitting in my house right now. I have raised one. I have another family on our property. I know them very well. The male only swoops for one month a year to protect his baby and mumma Maggie. They do go for you so i suggest carry a stick with leaves and just wave above your head. He says don't make eye contact...but i disagree. Turn to them and arms out and shout That way they know not to mess with you. They come from behind so wear glasses and a hat. If you give them some small bits of Wombaroo insectivore balls...you have a friend for life. They know your face and will not swoop you.

They will remember your face and tell other Magpies about you! 😅

I feel like they should warn you about this at the airport before you enter the country. Nobody told me about Magpies and I got blindsided by one at the park.
