Why Catholics Need to Read the Bible - Jeff Cavins

Jeff Cavins has been teaching the Bible his entire adult life; first as a non-denominational pastor, and for the past several years as a Catholic layman. For many Christians, the Bible can be intimidating to read without help; but as Jeff reminds us, the Bible was never meant to be read in a vacuum. The Bible sprang from the living tradition of the Catholic Church, and She gives us an incredible wealth of resources to help better understand and follow the Word of God.

Just started the Great Adventure Bible Study again! Went through it in 2012/13 & I'm excited to dig even deeper this time around :)

Every mass I have ever attended, has three readings from the Bible. The "Catholics don't read the Bible" story is a long standing myth portrayed by the evangelicals. They try to make Catholics seem separated from the Bible with this story.

"I think Catholics are waking up to the fact that the Bible is our book..."
Yes, it is and there's a book to explain further. It's written by Jimmy Akin, a Catholic apologist over at Catholic Answers. Grab your copy and learn more 😃😃😃

I started 30 years ago. Through the Neocatechumenal way ( in the Catholic Church) ..
I received the Bible, in a special liturgy 30 years ago ( receiving the Catechesis in the N, Way, 2 months, after receiving the KERYGMA ( CATECHIST close, the catechesis, with a special celebration, every person receive the Bible from hands of the Bishop in a special liturgy of word. And finish with an Agape ...Every commmunity, start to prepare every week, ( for celebration of the word, and Eucharist, the way has 54!years doing this celebrations as the early Christians ) , there is a period in the way, when the Brothers and sisters, receive the Liturgy of the hours (we pray the psalms, and the readings for everyday )
There are many families around the world doing this ..
Many families are in missions, around the world with 6, 10, 12, 14 children some of them, they left everything, all the securities, now they are announcing Christ, ( living in the providence of God )
They received this love through the Scriptures..
God talks to every person who read the Bible ....
God Bless you ...

I want to read the Bible on a more regular basis; starting from the beginning. Does it make the most sense to start with all of the explanations at the beginning of my New American Catholic Bible? Then the Old testament all the way through followed by the new testament all the way through? I actually considered reading one book of the old, then one book of the new chronologically. Would that make sense?
