As a retired carny operator, I will tell you that most operators use a system of 1 win is a small, then next win you trade up to a medium; repeating trade ups every other win until you get to the jumbos. Not sure what company they were, but to out right say "Give me $20 and I will give you the prize." That is illegal, and they should be reported to the carnival office; who will then cite them for unlawful practice of gaming rules and regulations.

Biggest scam I've had to deal with was when I went to a carnival this lady seid if I won I could get anything in the booth spent ten dollars triumphantly won asked for a giant picachu she seid no so I asked for a smaller picachu and she seid no I eventually got a cheap 35 cent owl plush!

Rule of thumb if the game seems easy you're just buying the prize.

"They are just in it for the money now" -- That's disappointing to hear, I always thought those Carni's that travel around the country without their family and work 12 hour days 7 days a week do it for shits and giggles and just to see the smile on your face.... =/

As a person that travels with carnival I can say yes it’s done for the money because we only get paid what we make from the games not hourly

4:53 he hit the cup clearly but it didn’t move. Carnival games just want your money, it was probably nailed down.

Can confirm. Once when I was about 7-8 I went to our local amusement park and they had one of those knock over the milk jug booths. If I remember correctly I only knocked off one or two pins and I was supposed to knock all three off, the dude was so nice he let me get a GIANT blue tiger the size of a person for about $4. And funny enough there were tiny tigers of the same kind at the horse races area and I very politely asked this woman to not get the blue tiger if she won (there was only one) and she said “you want that?” and proceeded to win the game and get me the tiger. I still have both!

Ok.. I am a carnie. I wanna start off by saying it is necessary to take ur time and read the signs. Each game is different from show to show. The build up games are designed to make you pay for your prize. Its for those without the skills to win skill games. And almost any game can be turned into a build up. And in certain spots if a game doesnt do well they will turn it into a build up like a break a plate or break a bottle. Almost every show will always have afew skill games. But on average you still maintain the same stock average no matter which game you play. Its just the losers play for the winners. Things are more expensive to run at the carnival than a normal business... Most games are not owned by the show.. Their rent averages between 25 to 35 percent of what they bring in. Their employees get between 20 and 35 percent. Stock between 15 to 25 percent. At the very least thats 60 per cent. Then theres insurance fuel veichle insurance taxes trailer rent for each bunkhouse and each house trailer which averages out to 125 a week for each one. Tolls on the road paying drivers. That being said the owner makes less than the employee. His advantage is he owns multiple games not saying there arent con games or crooked carnies. But by the colors on the tents and the uniforms that was wade shows and the show has rules that try and keep things fair.

"They're all about the money now." They've always been all about the money, they're just using slightly different tactics.

I don’t care about the prizes sometimes but more about the rush you get from winning 😅

See the milk jug game is rigged I manage that game every year at my town the only way you win is if the jugs are almost off the stand hit one pin and they all come down :😋

Instead of going to the carnival go to the shop and buy a teddy

I totally understand what you are saying. At my state fair there was a game where all you had to do was throw a dart and hope it sticks into the wall. I know that is literally the easiest thing ever, the catch was you pay five dollars and get a prize worth 2 cents, then he would say I’ll give you the big one if you throw three more darts but they’re three dollars a piece. The biggest scam ever!
