Curbing Fraud and Corruption in the Roads Sector

A June 2011 report by the World Bank highlights key steps that can be taken to curb fraud, bid-rigging, collusion and cartels in the roads sector, named by Transparancy International as the most corrupt industry in the world. Losses in the billions have been suffered by both developing and developed countries, but disproportionately impact the poor. The most common forms of wrongdoing in the road sector are collusion among firms bidding on a project and fraud and corruption in the execution of the resulting contract.
