Marketing isn't intrinsically evil, it is however, by its nature, manipulative and therefore prone to being abused.

It’s an accurate description in that (increasingly) marketing tends to focus on creating value in, and demand for, a product (or brand), when at its core it’s simply about creating awareness and access (which benefits both companies and consumers).
How subjective reality is doesn’t really change whether or not one is manipulated.

Marketing is a very straightforward concept - create a desire for something that people do not necessarily need. Certain products do not require marketing as people need those items anyway. The key word is desire and once you tap into people’s imaginations by a desire, then you are dealing with human emotions and thus triggering very powerful impulses. Think how you felt during adolescence when you had a crush on someone - it’s the very same thing, only difference is that if you part with money, you can have it but the emotions are no different. Even worse is that the very best marketing makes you feel worse about yourself if you don’t have it..

Good markeiting can tell people about the good things you are offering them, if you are offering them good things.

One might point out that almost every advertisement you see is a logical fallacy of one stripe or another. Some are lasagna layers of fallacy. Just because everyone does it doesn't make it right, rational, or moral.

Simple fact is. When you understand human behaviour, it is easier to anticipate and by extension influence and, to a certain extent, control.

Marketing has got to be the truth well told!

Marketing is merely the presentation of perception with the goal of exchange. We present ourselves to each other in exchange for resources, control, and recognition. Is it unequal in outcomes? Yes. Can it be equalized? No. The natural world eventually "finds" equilibrium such as predator-prey. Chance and the slope of your learning curve dictate fortunes.

he’s saying that we all shape how we see things because nothing has a fixed value it’s always based on our own views. This isn’t always a bad thing; it’s just how we naturally think. But if someone does it to hurt others, then it can be bad.

Everybody markets themselves to the world constantly. Does that make everybody evil? Manipulation is something all of us do on a daily basis.

He didn't answer the question. He was asked about how corporations manipulate people not "is marketing okay".

"You're marketing whether you like it or not." I respect his eagerness to wanna get there, but not everyone is trying to get everyone into doing something; that's passion.
Others are trying to get others to think because that's what every intelligent person wants for everyone around him, instead of using them for money to control his interactions with others.
I mean I respect it cause it's better than the ignorance of mishandling this dichotomy of life.

Marketing isn't evil. Some marketers might be.

99% of marketing should be illegal. Half the adds I see I couldn't even tell you what they're trying to sell.
