An old friend and I had a similar discussion on this a long time ago, he loved the metro series but had never played New Vegas, and I never played played Metro but NV is one of my all-time favorite games.

I would imagine if Courier 6 & Artyom met, it would probably deescalate pretty quickly into two idiots swapping stories about getting shot in the head, “accidentally” destroying an entire race of people, beating some LARPER calling himself “Caesar” to death with a rolling pin, something about a tsundere sniper chick, and being forced to fight a metric assload of radioactive bears on both sides.

Depends on what kind of courier is fighting:

Regular Courier with guns and skills to back it up - decent challenge

Literal Psychopath who devours the leaders of every faction and is high on ever chem 24/7 - no chance in hell for Artyom

A maxed out courier is a menace, this is the guy that can punch out a Deathclaw and survive being used as their chew toy for a decent while. I don't know enough about Artyom to comment on him but I can guess he's pretty insane if he can give the Courier a High-Diff fight.
