It seems like a lot of people either love or hate Suzaku (or both lol). Personally I like his character and his character arc because yes he is a hypocrite in a number of ways, but considering all the shit he got put through (and thinking that his childhood friend PURPOSELY made his love interest go on a killing spree and then killed her) I can't exactly blame him lol. It's actually rather tragic, Suzaku starts off as kind of your stereotypical shounen good guy hero, but slowly he is broken down by the world around him as he experiences trauma after trauma. Guilt over killing his father, being REMINDED of said guilt over killing his father, his love interesting dying and being misremembered as a horrible genocidal princess, finding out about Geass, finding out one of his friends is traitor/terrorist, one friend going batshit insane and nearly nuking the whole academy over the death of a woman she was horny for, learning that his best friend from childhood is the same man that caused all the crap with Euphemia and killed her and killed a bunch of other people, another friend dying, and just holy shit that is a lot of trauma for one person to go through especially a 17 - 18 year-old!
