01 - Solve One-Step Equations with Addition and Subtraction, Part 1

In this lesson you will learn how to solve one step equations in algebra using addition and subtractions. In order to solve a single step equation, we must isolate the variable (usually x) on one side of the equal sign.

In order to do this, we do the opposite math operation. For example if x is added to something on the left, we perform subtraction to get the variable by itself on one side of the equal sign. These types of equations can be solved with a single step, which is why they are called one step equations.

I just wanted to say that you are such an inspiration to me. I went through highschool never being motivated enough to learn mathematics, I wish I had because I recently realized in my life that my true passion is to understand more of how the world around me works. I am 20 years of age, I started college about a year ago and the major I chose was business. I set my expectations so low because I convinced myself for the longest time that I'm just too dumb to ever learn complex mathematics such as trigonometry, calculus. Etc. I now realize that it is not about how smart I already am, but it's about how smart I want to get. I already have a basic understanding of most algebra but I'm so determined to master the subject of math that I'm going through even the most basic fundamentals of algebra just to make sure I'm not missing any links whatsoever. Because of amazing people like you, providing free education for poeple like me, I'm now able to better my life. I will continue to go thru all of your lessons and playlists all the way until I understand Physics. Because now that is what I will major in when I go back to school. I'm not going to let anyone tell me what my limitations are. Nothing will get between myself and my goals ever again. Thankyou.
