Sure if you can afford spending $3000 per cavity filled with laser, or $1000 to remove decay with laser and use traditional filling. and contrary to claims, it is not entirely painless. Not all pain is caused by the drill, it is caused by the nerve getting stimulated it can happen even when numbed. Whether you use a drill or a laser, the surface area is being manipulated triggering the nerve. If you feel that excruciating "zing" kinda pain even when numbed, then with laser it will be less painful, but painful enough to be very uncomfortable, so you still need to get numbed. It is likely the heat from the drill or laser that stimulates the nerve the procedure which might cause that pain, or a shitty dentist (most) that drill too deep. With laser it is more accurate in removing only the decay before filling, without drilling deep so yeah less painful, but not pain free ! Still need tooth numbed, and contrary to belief, numbing a tooth is not painful, it's just a bit uncomfortable (slight pinch) but dentists who use numbing gels before the injection can help eliminate most of the injection pain. Good numbing with laser would provide a good experience with pain that is tolerable, but not pain free, but much better than the drill that's for sure. Laser without numbing, still would feel uncomfortable especially if your decay area is larger. For microcavities though the laser would be virtually pain free.
