Gravitas: India eyes more fighter jets, warship with an eye on China

From the Himalayas to the high seas, India has ramped up military modernisation efforts to counter China. In the latest, Indian Defence Panel has cleared a massive deal that includes the buying of 97 Tejas fighter jets, and 156 Prachand combat helicopters.

India will also add a nearly $5 billion aircraft carrier, marking India's determination to further secure her position in the Indian Ocean region.

as retired military strategist & ex advisor to few Govts. no country in the world have the capability to wage war in 3 fronts, those in the military high brass knows what I m talking about. even superpower like US in their doctrine limit themselves to wage 2 major wars simultaneous not 3 wars. Evne Russia struggling to wage war with Ukraine despite its called Russia's backyard. To go to war you need DEEP pockets, ability to sustain the war, procurement of weapons, ability to manufacture war equipments at high pace, logistics etc etc etc. so while it may sound intresting or mere rhetoric to able to wage war at 3 fronts from political viewpoint but in military POV it is just wishful thinking. India's reliance on foreign weapons & equipments is a minus point. Only for the past decade India is doing catching up in its defence Industry ie manufacturing own defence equipments etc compared to rival China. Even South Korea, Japan, UAE etc are far ahead in terms of self reliance. Over reliance on USSR/Russian weapons in the past have bogged down India's military assets and God forbid any war to break out now, I am 100% sure the Russians wont be able to supply any major weapons to India. Secondly India is making another mistake by relying on USA for its major military equipments, history have shown that they (US) is an unreliable ally so depending on a well known fair weather friend for transport aircrafts, helicopters, submarine hunters etc etc is a big mistake. India must accelerate its own capabilities in defence manufacturing. You must be able to produce tanks, SPH, APCS and IFVs. recent wars in Ukraine should be a lesson to all military top brass the need to have steady flow of weapons to frontlines. Troops need to be trained and their gears are up to date, India cannot even uniformized its assault rifles for her troops, !! INSAS, SIG, AKs etc you have to choose one and stick with it for all regular infantry troops no such thing as this battalion use INSAS, that battalion use SIG etc. It is a different story if its is Special forces but Infantry units are using different rifles without standardization is a recipe for disaster ! Fighting with Pakistan is different story from fighting China. Hope the politicians and top military planners understand that.
