But Not Comics...Sorta...COMIC BOOK INDEX UPDATE! Did DEADPOOL & DOOM Delay The Inevitable?

In this video I give an update to the Comic Book Index for the month of JULY. With everything happening in the economy right now its kinda amazing to say that comics haven't crashed as hard this month compared to the stock market or crypto. That said though it still seems like comic buyers are waiting on the sidelines for most books (atleast in terms of values). Some of the announcements at SDCC and HALL H were enough to keep things elevated, but the overall trend is still on the softer side. Without new collectors continuing to come in, will comics wither away.

It was nice to be able to compare the numbers with GoCollects index as well. It seems like we are seeing similar things.

What do you guys think? How do you see comics performing right now?

Great video swaggle. However, the chart does not adjust for consumer inflation. Consumer inflation is 15-20% overall since 2020. I think these % should be adjusted over time on a chart to show the true real values. Could be a good chart to look at instead of the prices without inflation adjusted. Inflation is out of control and we can't ignore how much of an impact consumer inflation has had on book prices. Most people not realizing a lot of books are now less real value than 2020 with consumer inflation adjusted.

What kind of idiot would ever think that comics are recession proof? They are literally the first thing getting axed from the budget for anyone going through a tough time.

Thank you for continuing to do this, it's useful information for a lot of collectors. I love reading and collecting comic books, but I'm also interested in the 'money' aspect as I just find it fascinating. I wouldn't recommend to anyone about investing in comic books, but it's an interesting aspect of the hobby. Hope you had fun at San Diego!

I've dipped my feet in both comics and sports/pokemon cards. For the most part comics collecting is focused on already released books. There aren't new characters that gain traction every year. With older books, the only real catalysts have been movie and film news. There are a lot of crazy shenanigans and similar issues with card collecting, but they naturally have an influx of new players or characters ever year that generate hype, and vintage stays relevant. Maybe a good video would be comparing the indexes of the different hobbies.

Thank you - very informative. Appreciate it. Looking forward to your insights on SDCC - especially “wall pricing”.

If there's a significant stock market crash, we may see a "Dead Cat Bounce" in the collectibles market. This could happen because some collectors may shift some of their cash into comics and other collectibles, not necessarily expecting high returns but because they are unfamiliar with other assets. The vendor's responses in your @Swagglehaus SDCC video identified that, despite the downturn in the comic book market, there's still demand for collectibles, even during economic uncertainties. This is definitely up for debate, but it has some potential validity.

Thanks for the vid. Made some good points. I'd be interested in seeing a list of the best comics/ exclusive variants that were available at the SDCC. Sounds like a great event, but so many are unable to attend.

These are great as always. If you collect something, as a hobby, continue. The hobby is relaxing and fun, a distraction. If you are into stocks and bonds, be shrewd. There is no overlap unless something you own just happens to rise organically, and if it does, does it stay ahead of inflation? Pure dumb luck? Good fortunes to everyone.

great content - and you point out something that is very important. Doom-mania isn't likely to happen - any more than Madame Web mania should have. Dr. Doom in FF5 is $$$$... and most heavy duty collectors have one. And, now that spec is tired out - and there so few fools trying to part with their money (after about 30 movies, 30 tv shows, and 30 animated shows created hundreds os=f "spec" books - 98% of which dropped back to pre-spec pricing, there are very few people who will line up to drink the kool-aid this time. With spec dead, I don't think that prices for Doom (who has been in, I dunno... 500 comics at this point) aren't going to go through the roof. Marvel Superheros 20 will have a bump - and maybe Sup Villain Team Up - but the other 480 Doom appearances are likely going to gravitate about where they are.

Love the video. Comics will probably go down in value another 20% until the end of the year.

the collectible market is all down...people would prioritize necessities instead of collectibles...economy is still bad...inflation rate is going up quickly...so people have no extra money for collectibles

Will be interesting to see a report in Oct, Nov, as the Holidays approach how comic sales go. World is a mess right now with big market corrections. My guess is it has to filter into comic sales. Many cant afford food, car insurance, rent, mortgage, etc. etc. etc.

Comics have been in a bear market for at least 2-3 years now. If unemployment goes up in a meaningful way then we’ll talk about a crash, because it will get very ugly.

Comics are meant to be encased & displayed on a wall...🤯

Go Woke, Go Broke. Imagine what our comic book riches would have looked like if 2021, 2022 and 2023 had MCU content that was as good at D&W.

I stopped buying graded books, I've found that I prefer them raw. I only buy slabs if they are signature series as I feel like those deserve to be slabbed.

We should say thank you for not being greedy and asking for money for this valuable information 😅
