Top 10 Low-Cost Electric Mopeds w/ Pedals (Things to Know Before Buying)

E-mopeds are a relatively new invention but it hasn't taken them long to attract a decent share of consumer interest. Today it is safe to say that the world of personal mobility vehicles was taken by surprise, as today everyone seems to be interested in buying one of these fat-tire bikes.

The success of moped-styled two-wheelers could be explained by several factors. First of all, they are equipped with high-torque electric motors with outputs exceeding 750Watts (and in some cases even 1000Watts), and are faster than an average ebike. Secondly, they are equipped with elongated seats. These usually provide great cushioning for one of two riders, just making your commuting experience more pleasant. And finally, these two-wheeled EVs seem to bring aesthetic pleasure to those who enjoyed riding regular mopeds.

Battery-electric mopeds with pedals are quite trendy and powerful, but how much money does it take to own one of these? We tried to put together a definitive overview of the cheapest models that either exist today or will be going on sale in early 2022.

After watching this video review you will get a clear understanding of what it takes to get your hands on a commuting vehicle like that and what specifications and estimated battery range you can expect.

It's nuts that almost all of these bikes doubled in price over the 4 months that this video was made.

Great video. Nice to know the specs of many different companies and models. I've been researching moped style e-bikes, but settled on a regular style e-bike. And, believe it or not, the one and only reason I didn't get a moped style, is because of the height of these. I am 6'1" and I have yet to see a company that makes one for the average taller people. I know that juiced bikes has the seat height adjustment, but it doesn't seem to be significant. When we pedal, the knees should be able to extend almost to straight out. Just a little frustrating that these companies didn't or don't consider this. 😑

I love my scorpion. And I have two rad power bikes. But the scorpion is a wonderful moped crossover. With 30 miles an hour top speed and a really comfortable seat. I’ve had it a couple years and really enjoy. I also really like my rad power bikes very much too. But they are very much like a Bicycle, and the scorpion is a moped.

Electric mopeds look great but these looks as well as specifications come at a price. Let's look at the representatives of this segment that have the lowest prices. Are they worth the price? Share your thoughts below!

Unprotected drive sprocket on the '45 Bike' is an accident waiting to happen. Otherwise, thanks for the video introduction to these models of e-bikes.

In the US, you can go to car auctions and purchase say a 2010 Hyunday Sonata for usd 500 - $1000.
How is it that the 'low cost' mopeds can cost twice and even 4 times as much?
Either the cars are being auctioned off too cheap or the electric vehicles are too expensive...
Also, except Germany, northen Europe or the US, the rest of the world, a usd $2000 machine is Not low cost.

I don't know who these are affordable for. The first one I could buy, but it wouldn't be legal to ride here, no pedals. Unless you have the cash to put down on the barrel for one of the others, you'll have to finance it. The interest charged on these transactions is the same or more that you'd pay on a credit card, is calculated as soon as the loan is made, and your monthly payments are fixed and *non-negotiable*. The loan interest is immediately added on to the principal, and then divided by the number of months in the life of the loan (say 36 or 48), the result is your monthly payment. A $2000 e-bike put me into bankruptcy 3 years ago, thanks to the financing, and the bike getting stolen and never recovered. The insurance fought me for 2 years, and then only paid a depreciated-value that amounted to 18% of the purchase price, that also contributed to the bankruptcy.

Affordable, for the people that actually NEED one of these for transport, would be about twice the cost of a pedal bike. I won't bother looking at purpose-built e-bikes again for a long time. They're still too expensive, and this video proved it, and they are also very risky to own since they are prime targets for theft. Conversion kits are something I'm looking at now, or an electric kick-scooter, there are some actually affordable models of those. They'd still require public transit a lot for longer trips though, so less overall utility.

Edit: for the clown below me, @VanGough - do you understand basic economics? You don't seem to understand that the 2k was the LIST price, with the interest added on, it came to $3830, over 36 months. That's $106.38 a month. My income was a net of about $1600/month (it still is since wages haven't risen in years); with fixed expenses, such as RENT ($650/month), food ($200/month) and student loans ($435/month). Also a smoker, though I cut back. That's the life of the working poor. And these fucking bikes are affordable? Everybody and anybody who thinks so, can fuck themselves sideways.

Affordable, in this context, means that people can fit a purchase into their budget without having to give up something critical, like food, or utilities. It doesn't mean cheap toys for the fucking wealthy.

Thanks for the impressive lineup you're reporting on! I'm torn between the Himiway Escapr for $1799 and the Juiced Scorpion at $1911... Although not a moped, the Aostirmotor 1500W48V15AH70miRange for $1699 deserves honorable mention

I have a dual drive dual motor CSC 20 inc 750 XP.It was 2300 dollars.1700 for the retail bike and another 500 for a 1000 watt front motor and 48v 20 ah battery and seat suspension and seatpost.34 mph top speed (1000 motor only) 80 mile range easily.Mine also rides and looks like a big BMX bike--handles bettre then these and you can adjust the seat..You can not adjust the seat on these and if you are over about 5 foot 9 the seats sit low and your legs will be bent and it will be very uncomfortable to pedal. The grizzly and powerful ones also weigh a lot--close to 100lbs and more.Do research--if you want no hassle and plan on throttle only moped riding get one of these. If you want all offroading if need be--look at buying a fat tire ebike and adding a front hub motor to it.

Any suggestions? I need 3 bikes for our family. I have two already, a EUY S4 26ah, and Ridstar 21ah. What should be a third? The EUY was $1450 delivered and Ridstar $1, 050. Any suggestions for my third bike? Needs to have same capabilities as other two, and is more for playing around on slightly hilly gravel roads and our level fields. Thanks!

I own a similar ebike like these one shown. Only downfall with mine has no rear suspension and the Kenda 4 inch tyres wear out real quick. I've been through 4 tyres in first year and most of my riding is on grass. I've changed to 16 inch motorcycle tyres and they should last for years and feel a lot safer when I venture on the road. The Kenda tyres recommend maximum 20 pounds pressure which make the ride smoother but don't feel 100% safe when cornering fast. Apart from that, the bikes a great to ride.
