Spanning tree protocol, or STP, puts an end to bridge looping -- a condition that happens when too many computers try to send data at the same time, triggering more and more data to be sent back and forth between the same computers -- in a loop. STP segments networks to guarantee that each message is only sent to the intended destination -- and won’t keep forwarding after reaching its destination.

Turn off STP for trunk ports and ports that you know will be for a certain device

Leave it on for ports that are guaranteed used for random devices
