Quick release (QR) axles are a convenient and tool-free way to quickly remove and install your wheel quickly. Knowing how to set them up properly is important, as they're very common.

I feel like an idiot. I didn't know that you released the brakes. I've been ripping my wheel free and going, "This doesn't seem right..."

Thanks! This is very helpful. I will try this tomorrow for my wife’s Vital 1.

Thank you. Finally got my wheel off.👍🏻 Those brakes were confusing me.

So much easier then I thought it was gonna be, even with an old bike like mine which is rusty around the wheel frames

but what if the wheel is not on straight in the end?!?!

Pro Tip: NEVER press the brake lever without having the rotor in between the brake pads. When changing your wheels, you can put a little piece of cardboard or anything in between your brake pads otherwise they can get stuck closed if you accidentally pull that brake lever.

Ive done all of this its a brand new bike however ive fitted the quick release and the wheel if still loose when you put weight on it the front wheel will tilt left to right ive tightened the quick release up as much as it will possibly go but there is still a slight gap between the wheel and the forks any suggestions? The quick release came with the bike i do have the normal nuts for it however the front axle isnt long enough for the threads to stick out the side of the forks not giving any room for the nuts?

Do you need a specialized lever for giant escape

My bike mechanic put the release lever on the right side. I noticed it and it seems strange. Should i put it on the left side ?

Nothing about how to do this ONE HANDED, which is how most bikers are doing this when they pull their bikes out of the back of a car, for instance. It's EASY when you have the bike on a stand or suspended. Now, please show us how to do it with the bike frame on the ground, one handed.

I was doing it wrong too, go to a bike shop and let them show you, takes me about 30 seconds
