Loss of Identity in Bloom into You

I forgot to put in a notice at the beginning of the video, but spoilers for the Bloom into You anime...

I made another video! Once again, for the /r/anime video contest. I did everything on this very last minute (I had less than three hours to edit), so it's unfortunately not as good as I'd hoped. I also had to cut out a section of the video that I didn't have time to edit. Oh, well. I'll definitely make an expanded version of this someday.

My original script discussed this analysis, but I ended up cutting it from this version; I'll definitely address it in the expanded version.

My next video...might also be about Bloom into You, but about a different aspect of it.

I wrote the music in the video; the performers are professors at my school.

Bloom Into You is one of the last anime I watched in 2021. It's baffling how unprepared I was for this show when it first aired in 2018. Since then, thinking about my identity has become a core part of me, and so I really appreciate Bloom Into You's exploration of that through love.

I think the plot twist about Touko's sister being a totally different person to different people is really good, and the show's message about not chaining oneself to a singular true identity, which is continued from the anime into the manga and beautifully resolved by the Student Council Play arc, is a really good and pragmatic message. Many works would do the opposite and push the existential message of the one true self. But although it's not a wrong message from a Jungian or Nietzschian perspective, I just don't think it's very practical. Coming to accept every one of your self, even if it's about chasing after your ideal of someone else, is the way to go in my opinion.

Really excited to see the part 2 of this. I'm glad I subscribed.

Interesting video. You are really good at creating an athmosphere. I didn't notice that Yuu loved Touko in the Anime. You proununced raison d'être was weird, it sounds like you said reason de être which is diffrent to the french way.
