That long range diagonal pass to Rooney vs Barcelona in the 2009 Final. Still don't understand why Sir Alex didn't start Scholes in that final. There was a stat that showed that in 4 meetings when Scholes had started, Barcelona had not won a game against United. That's how much the La Masia players respected Scholes.

Scholes was undoubtedly the best English midfielder of his generation. A pure midfield genius. This is why it still shocks people when scholes was replaced in England's midfield by Lampard and Gerrard..who from my perspective and style of football..are just a bit above average midfielders.

As a lifelong Liverpool fan I had to contain my admiration for him at club level but as soon as he put on an England shirt I was mesmerized. Oh I remember Scholes's incredible goal from a pinpoint volley right from the corner kick. I personally still am longing for Man U's first squad with Scholes, Stam etc in them.. up til Van Persie's intake. I can't move on..
