Please Consider this 4x4 7 seater SUV! Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2023 review

Hope you liked the 90s ad reference in the title. But seriously, you should consider the Pajero Sport.

If you're in the market for an affordable 4x2 or 4x4 family SUV with five or seven seats, then the Mitsubishi off-roader offers plenty of value.

It isn't in its prime anymore. But it is still very likeable in a few interesting ways. There's not much pomp or bling here, but there is plenty of substance to this diesel off-road wagon, and in this review I cover off luggage space, comfort in all three rows of seats, usability, safety, driving and plenty more.

Oh, and that 10 year warranty... there's stuff you need to know about that.

We bought a new Pajero Sport about 3.5 years ago. Ours came with a 7 year 150k warranty.
Reasons we settled on the PS compared to the
Ford Everest. Expensive. MANY reports of reliability problems, and some alarmibg reports of 6 month old cars being riddled with rust, with owners lockedinto nasty battles with Ford.
Toyota Fortuner. The DPF saga was ongoing, with Toyota playing the denal card and shafting owners. Expensive also. Short service intervals. And a 3rd ror seat design that looks like it was lifted from a 1990's No tech like Android auto either, which the PS had on release in 2015.... No AWD mode either.
Isuzu MUX. The latest gen was not released when we bought, so this comparison would posdibly be different now. 1st Gen MUX, horrible interior, no rear diff lock, no tech, shorter warranty than the PS. No AWD mode.
We've had a few cosmetic issues fixed on our Pajero Sport, and Mitsubishi have redesigned the intercooler inlet and outlet pipes which I have had replaced under warranty due to weeping. The dealer and Mitsubishi have not put up any arguments, with regard to sorting out my complants, so overall it has been a great ownership experience. We haven't had any electrical or mechanical faults in nearly 50k of driving so far.
The factory Toyo tyres the PS rolls out of the factory with are absolute garbage and a death trap on wet bitumen. The intercooler hoses are made of cheese and split prematurely, but aftermarket silicone hoses are a cheap addition to improve reliability as I have done on mine. Otherwise, all reports suggest that the PS is extremely reliable.
You could do a lot worse than buying one of these cars!

You didn't recline the second row seats enough, that's why your cup holders aren't in the correct position. I have a 2023 Pajero Sport GLS deluxe pack and love it. Not going to beat any land speed records, not going to beat other brands with fancy tech but why when you have a very good car with an amazing 4wd system. The car goes anywhere without having to spend over $75, 000+

Replacing my 2008 'Petrol' Pajero Exceed, only reason is better fuel consumption towing, and... Bought the GLS 2.4 Diesel yesterday... Pick up tomorrow. Very Happy

Just about to buy the Exeed. My three Toyota's are due for a service. 2012 Kluger, 2018 Corolla and a 2018 Hilux 4x2 single-cab. A major service at $1000 each. Won't be eating for the next six months😂

I have owned the same generation Montero Sport (Philippine market) for almost 8 years now and it's almost trouble-free owning it. I say almost trouble-free because the manual transmission leaked a bit of fluid and the technicians had no knowledge on how to fix it. Luckily, I know a mechanic friend that also worked on other cars where he twisted the spring on the rubber seal and the leak never came back again.

Super select 2 with Invecs 2 successor is still among the best and unrivaled by newer SUV’s

I just bought one, had the 2015 Challenger so I hope it’s just as good or better.

I bought 2020 PS Exceed. Nothing came close at the time, but even today I'd only look at M-UX if looking for an alternative.

Definitely one of my top choices but leaning towards the slightly different Subaru outback. The Outback looks more premium and fun to drive plus doesnt depreciate as much.

We bought our GLS in 2021 because, value for money, 8k cheaper than the base opposition rivals, proven fuel consumption and reliability

If you want the best 4x4 system, you gotta get the Pajero. The Everest is terrible

I was really interested in the Tank 300 until I found out the payload is only 394kg and there’s nobody developing a GVM upgrade package for awhile.

Would be great if also offered as a 5 seat option; with larger boot.

The 4X2 would be more than acceptable for the vast majority of purchasers.

Solid however boring performer.
I purchased a Pajero Sport GLS many years ago as a work vehicle for towing purposes, functional and does everything with ease, the engine does have serious turbo lag which can catch the driver out, I tended to drive in AWD mode (4H Open) and using the Paddle Shifters / Gear Lever to, leaving it in drive would cause the transmission to always go to top gear however that was not good especially when towing as turbo lag was really bad, I found 5th and 6th gears were the sweet spot at 100km/h when towing.

From the drivers perspective, seat was great for long distance driving, never felt bad when ever exiting the Pajero Sport, sight lines were also very good, everything was within reach, being hydraulic steering there was great feedback and well weighted at all road speeds none of that artificial nonsense you get from electric steering, brakes were progressive feel and the ride balance (note on 18" alloys) was always compliant on road, off road? heavily corrugated dirt roads were not so good to drive on.

Overall the Pajero Sport is a fine middle of the pack vehicle, in other words it does the job enough.

TANK 300 is the best 4x4 SUV by a significant margin now, even better than the Ford Ranger offroad.
