Well done Will. Lovely short film. When I was your age, I remember heading out in the early hours to go fishing and having to step over the hedgehogs on the housing estate where I grew up, they were so numerous. Its so sad to see the demise of all our wildlife in recent decades, not just the hedgehogs. Keep up the good work. 👍

You got some nice shots of that hedgehog. You're very lucky! I don't get them around my area anymore. Good little documentary.

This was pretty cool. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a documentary about hedgehogs before.

Just had a hog family move in, first time. I generally have dizens of goffers, wild cats, flock of chikens, and the coyotes pack lives up the creek. Not many deer or rabbits in the vally.

what a lovely video :) just so you know, hedgehogs will only eat slugs if they are starving as slugs are hosts to lungworm which will kill a hedgehog once contracted! also the best thing to feed hedgehogs is complete cat biscuits with meat listed as the first ingredient. sunflower hearts and other seeds are actually dangerous to hedgehogs and can cause serious bone conditions in them which eventually lead to death.

Hi, Just a bit of advice (I help out with a hedgehog rescue). Hedgehogs should NOT be fed mealworms - due to mealworms having a very poor calcium:phosphorus ratio which causes the body to leach calcium from the bones which can cause life threatening problems and causing Metabolic Bone Disease or Hyperparathryoidism. Young hedgehogs fed on a diet with the incorrect calcium/phosphorus ratio are particularly at risk and are unlikely to live to be healthy adults. Whilst it is true to say hedgehogs love mealworms they are not good for them and they will soon accept a better diet if they are hungry - a bit like a child refusing to eat anything except chocolate! (If you search on Youtube "hedgehog Metabolic Bone disease" you will see a heartbreaking video about this from Vale Wildlife). Sunflower hearts are also bad for hedgehogs having a high phosphorus:calcium ratio. Peanuts should never be left for hedgehogs as they can get stuck on the roof of the mouth and become infected. Sultanas and raising are also not good due to the high sugar content which rots their teeth. Best foods are dog or cat food in jelly (gravy can sometimes upset their stomachs) or cat biscuits. Hope that helps. Some lovely shots of the hedgehog Will. Perhaps you could add a comment at the top about mealworms, sunflower hearts and peanuts?
