The trends that will continue? Prices rising gouging out people out of the sport and making it even less accessible especially for kids and teenagers looking to compete.

I would be happy for a 105 R7000 to continue moving forward.

Those magnesium welds are the worst thing i've seen this year.

It is possible we'll see the introduction of an altogether new mechanical groupset to replace 105 mechanical, but I think it more likely we will see a lighter more sophisticated Tiagra mechanical groupset replace 105 mechanical. Shimano is already moving all of their groupsets 'up a notch' (e.g. introduction of Di2 105) as Dura Ace has become so astronomically expensive that it isn't really in the picture anymore in terms of affordability. Tiagra already has a heritage of good performance (within limits) which can be leveraged by upgrading it to a 'proper' competitive offering to replace 105. That may mean we'll see a replacement for Tiagra with a new budget friendly groupset - especially for OEM - to fill the gap.

I guess some folks really want an overpriced and overweight entry-level electro/hydro setup??
I'm in for a lightweight Ultegra mechanical/rim group set.

I don't care what Shimano calls it, but it needs to keep producing a high-end 11-speed mechanical groupset with a rim brake option.

As someone who is passionate about cycling I hate the future of overpriced, cheaply made, disposable bikes. I’ll stick with my current rim brake bikes and race the hyper wheels since they are the best bang for the buck

The worst trend is a lack of availability.

I LOVE my Vaast magnesium. Material continues to blow me away. Super light and stronger than steel. And cheap!

Your point about the gap Shimano has left, apparently abandoning support for a 105 level mechanical group-set was interesting. In their preoccupation with Di2 for the three top tier group-sets, Shimano really ought to watch their backs. If they don't continue to support a quality mechanical group-set for aspiring racers and sports riders, there are plenty of Chinese manufacturers willing and apparently able to fill that market sector, with the quality of their products improving exponentially.

I also would love to see a "11 to 23 straight through block" on a thirteen speed rear cassette. Maybe the Italians can throw in a couple half tooth jumps for the Brits.

2023 is the year Sensah and LTWOO will quietly continue eating the big three's lunch from the bottom... While Shimano offers Tourney 2x7, Claris 2x8, Sora 2x9 and Tiagra 2x10, everyone that's not in Europe or the US is already buying Sensah or LTWOO 2x12 instead of this low end stuff... As things are going now, the big three will soon look like Motorola, Nokia and Sony cell phones...

I think we'll see chinese hydraulic groupsets bringing price fights for traditional mechanical components.

As a leisure cyclist, there is one trend I want, bikes with proper mudguard mounts. Currently using a Orbea Avant whose mounts are so badly designed the bike shop ended up using zip ties.

Actually one of my previous bikes, from Giant, not only had proper mudguard mounts but Giant made the mudguards specifically to fit (beautifully) to the bike.

It’d be good to see more options and true innovations break into the mainstream. Shimano and SRAM can’t just keep adding gears and electronics while jacking the prices up. Maybe more FSA groupsets on stock bikes…
