I have had African violets for years.  This year I started watering them with water I boiled eggs in.  They just took off and bloomed profusely and grew fast.  I use that water for all my plants when I have it.  love your videos.

I love the mold potting tip. I've been planting for 45 years and have never heard this. It's great! Love your videos. I watch each new one.

Never had any luck with plants. Always said the only gardening group I could belong to is Wilt & Kill. Now I have a beautiful Violet and want to keep it alive and beautiful. This video is great. Thank you so much for all the information

Nice instructable! Two tips to avoid leaf breakage, 1. wait until your AF is on the dry side, which makes the leaves a bit limp and less likely to snap off during transplanting. 2. Use a spoon in tight re-potting to place the soil beneath the leaves avoid too much of a mess. You can also use the spoon to tamp down the soil a bit, fingers can be clumsy! Happy Planting! 🌸🌱

I LOVE the bell jar and little green house you have, where did you buy them or where is a good place to get them ?

It isn't the water that burns the leave but direct light on the leave while it is wet. I bath my violets with a sprayer with warm water just make sure the plant is dry before putting it back in sun.

You are so lovely! 💚🙏 And this was super-helpful. But you talk so fast and without pause :-) ! I recommend some deep breaths here and there, and slow down, it's good for your health and it makes listening easier. Everything else was wonderful -- i'm just trying to spread the good word about slowing down in general. As a society -- especially these last 14 months or so -- we've gone into hyper-speed. Wishing you great success.

An African Violet was the first houseplant that got me really interested. I didn't know anything about them when my father-in-law gave me one for Mother's Day. I tend to use a different system though. When I re-pot mine I press the outermost edge of soil down just a little bit lower than the plant. When I water it I just fill up the "moat" with water mixed with fertilizer. All but one of them stays in continous bloom. I love that you did a video on these!

Good tips, especially molding the dirt first to ease in the plant. Very cool!

The favorite nursery I worked at was a 20 acre a nursery growing African Violets. Every day was a treat as the colors we always changing as plants were sold and new plants started to flower. We had 20 different varieties that were sold regularly as well as small batches of specialty Violets. We had our own breading program and many of the varieties were patented. It is sad that the nursery went out of business because the owners decided they could make more money selling the land then continuing to produce plants.

I've been repotting my African violets using a wicking system where they end up sitting on top of a jar of water always. The single piece of yarn from the reservoir and up to about the middle of the potting soil, keeps them watered always and without compacting the soil. Works wonderfully. I learned it from watching the Gray Turtle African violet channel.

This is one plant I couldn’t keep alive. I tried so hard because it was from my dads funeral.

My mother loved African violets. her always grew and flowered like crazy. each year she demanded we insert a rusty nail into and right beside the root ball. I do this to this day. Not sure if you have heard of this before - but it would make her flowers bloom profusely. About a 1/2 inch rusted finish nail.
