anybody buying a new $50, 000 Honda or Toyota and thinking it's going to hold up the way they did in the 90s and 2000s is in for a rude awakening

392k on my '99 Avalon and still driving it for work every day. Original engine, trans, AC, every switch in the car... Religious maintenance, keep it in the garage and take care of it and it'll probably last forever. They're among the best cars ever made.

Like your granddad, as much as I like old Buicks, I have to admit any older Camry with a V6 is much longer lived!

I have a 2005 Camry with 108k on the clock. Same 3.0 V6. The oil level never drops below the full mark on the dipstick between oil changes. Oil gets changed every 5k or one year and is almost completely clear at change time. I use Amsoil xl.
I keep up on maintenance, filters, fluids, etc.
I strongly believe a very important factor is getting engine up to operating temp and running it there to burn off moisture, unburned fuel. This goes a long way to minimize sludge and varnish buildup.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. If it's broke and a Toyota, fix it. Simple as that - Engine still good? Make it run and it'll go to the Moon a couple times.
