This is an underrated quirky series. I hope it gets more attention. Netflix is weird how it barely promotes certain shows it produces and pumps the real failures like RE, Cowboy Bebop, etc... ;p

I love this series - I'm currently watching it for the second time (this time in German with German subtitles). I especially enjoy the chemistry between the two leads, and love the humor that is interwoven throughout the series. Jella Haase and Dimitrij Schaad are fantastic!

I agree the cinematography was stunning and the episode where it was like the set for a play was so well done. The costumes and music took me back to my young adulthood. I have on episode left, but I am really enjoying both the drama and the humour.

As for Theo (Spoiler!), I expect that he might just had an overdose, and maybe it turns out that he died from it. He represents the vivacious techno scene in Berlin from the early 90s, when there were so many lost places after the GDR crumbled, that were turned into (illegal) techno clubs. But it wasn't all “peace, joy, pancakes” (love, peace, and harmony) as we say in Germany. Deaths from drug overdoses in the techno scene weren't uncommon during that time. So maybe the character of Theo will be used to make some kind of statement in that direction in the second season.

I'm German and grew up in a communist country for some years. This series is great, top notch costumes, great dialoges, nice action und really good story... The whole series transports the flair and feeling of the late 80's here in Germany really well. One of the best german series since Babylon Berlin and 4 Blocks.

While it's true that the character Thilo was not necessary, I felt that it added to the childlike side of Kleo by providing companionship. She did mention that she couldn't or hated to sleep alone. I believe Thilo OD'd in ep8 and his friend encouraged the 'high'. I may be wrong though but that's my thought.

I just binged it and gave it 4.8 out of 5. It was a dark humour action comedy in the end and very enjoyable. I looked at it as a German comedy "Kill Bill" and Jella Haase was amazing.

I went to the Stasi Museum in Berlin and then the next day this series came out and I had to watch it, the series was incredibly enjoyable after having experienced the the Stasi headquarters first hand, and even seeing the red suitcase that is so central to the story line of the series.

hello, i am from germany, like your review and love this show. but i have to explain something: the UFO doesn't mean anything mystical. the UFO was the first acid house club in berlin, 1988. the scene means that he was actually the founder of the UFO... greetings

Loved Kleo, best series I have watched in a long while. I hope they do a season 2.

I picked KLEO by random in Netflix. I was fascinated by the range of emotion demonstrated by Kleo ( Jella Hasse) in the first episode. I was and am so attracted to her that I have just finished watching the series the second time. I have read that a second season will be made. I am really anticipating what threat that will be.

The review was fairly comprehensive but left out the incredible sarcasm provided by the background and the music. The last scene with Ramona is a gem.

I enjoyed this show way more than I expected. Being a Berliner myself and having experienced the last years of the cold war era in Berlin myself, shows set during this period are always interesting to me. Sadly, most of them disappoint, especially when made by Hollywood. They just don`t seem to get it "right". This series, even though while being somewhat ridiculous at times and way more humorous than I expected, it just sets the right tone and set pieces throughout. When you don`t expect it to be some GDR- Jason Bourne and accept its silliness and are ready for it's regular shifts in the tone you will have a great time!

A huge success! Love it (from Holland) I think the humor is much more important than the action. And Uwe (no good looser of the East) versus Thilo (no good looser of the West) is clear for us Europeans.

This review is the first one that brought me to your channel. I was searching for videos to talk my buddy into watching this (since I loved it). Great informative review! Can’t wait to see more!

Recommended by my parents and I tried it one evening because the trailer made me interested in it (being a huge fan of 70s, 80s)
And let me tell you I fell in the rabbit hole, it was amazing, I really liked the vibe of the show and the charaters are really good, you are attached to them and every episode is like a rendez-vous that you don't wanna miss !

I actually had a hard time getting into this show for the first couple episodes, in part because I was confused what it was trying to be, and there are so many ridiculous plot holes and illogical and impossible moments that left me scratching my head. While I do appreciate the sets & costumes, sometimes it felt a bit overtly trendy and a little ridiculous to believe an East German assasin has such a closet. However, once Kleo and Sven team up it turns into a pretty entertaining comedy which allowed me to forgive the lack of logic – they're so much fun together, with Sven trying to keep her from destroying everything in their path 🤣

Most of the characters are pretty interesting, but I could do without Thilo, who may have some funny moments but doesn't contribute that much to moving the story forward. I'll check it out for season 2!

Thanks Chris for the review. It sounds fun to watch, I will put it on my list... I am rarely disappointed by german productions, and the esthetics of the 80's East Germany are funny to watch. I recently watched the spin off movie of the Netflix serie How to sell drugs online, called Boba. I found it to be really darker than the serie ... I don't recall you making a review... Did you watch it?

This is my favorite all time on Netflix! I really like how they added techno into it too.
