In the Driftless you have got to build the dams on the ridge to slow the water down where the floods originate off the ridge farmer's fields. Then you can restore the gullies and the BIG floods will disappear.

Tracy Hames says we should go upstream but I never hear him say we should go to the ridges and build dams before the gullies. So in my opinion he doesn't grasp what causes the BIG floods and the creation of huge gullies in the Driftless.

You can not compare the Little Plover River to any stream in the Driftless Area unless you build a dam on the ridge before every gully going down to the valley.
