Topaz Labs Gigapixel AI vs Adobe Super Resolution. Which is the better upscaling method?

Which one of the two photo upscaling methods, Topaz Labs Gigapixel AI or Adobe Super Resolution is the better method? This is the question I want to answer in this Video.

Upscale photos with Topaz Labs Gigapixel AI is as easy as it can be, and while Gigapixel AI was to got upscale method for me for a long time, Adobe is now entering the game of Super Resolution with the Adobe Super Resolution feature which can be accessed in Camera Raw to easy upscale photos by 2x.

My results show that both the Topaz Labs Gigapixel AI and the Adobe Super Resolution are performing well and delivering a pleasing result. The Gigapixel AI, however, seams to be a little sharper over all but sometimes gets confused with details.

I stopped at 6:20 when I heard "both look identical". In my book, that's night and day. Look at the texture of the ground, the blurriness of the small of the street pillar...

Seems like you could import both upscaled images into photoshop, with the Gigapixel being the bottom layer and the super resolution being the upper layer, then add a layer mask to the Super Resolution layer and paint in white on the areas where Gigapixel over sharpened like on the eyes. That way you get the best of both techniques.

just got Topaz because I needed it, I did a old photo and it screwed up the hands and feet all I did was 2 upscale renders and erased what I did not want in PS

Now I want to see an image ran 2x through Super Resolution, and then that Super resolution image upscaled 2x in Gigapixel. I wonder if that would work better than the 4x mode alone in Gigapixel.

Gigapixel really stands out with super low res images. I mean like 512px per side or lower esp. if it's a portrait. It's going to do fine on "high res" images too, but the AI kicks in and gets creepy at the lower resolutions. It's not always perfect, but I've used it on projects where clients handed me assets that I couldn't even use and gigapixel was able to enlarge them to a point where I could.

Photoshop is 100x times better. Gigapixel IA is inventing stuff that was not there. The numbers is a clear example. It is doing the same with the eyes of people of old photographs etc. If you don't care about faithfulness thats ok but if you need to stick to truth PD is a much better option so far.

I think it's generally important to avoid adobe products as much as possible lol... they're a necessary evil and great. But full of bugs and issues.
