As a first responder, I've never seen anyone OD from touching fentanyl. That's the problem with that.

In emt class we talked about how your perception of something changes your reaction to simple contact to what actually didn't affect you.

I feel for him because anxiety sucks so bad, you can legit feel like you’re dying. The mind is a powerful thing. But as someone in the medical field, there is no way you can OD from touching it.

This isn't an overdose. It's a panic attack.

Being a recovering addict and fetynal being my DOC. Hearing his symptoms it doesn't sound like what you experience when you do fetynal. Sounds more like a anxiety/panic attack or a medical issue.

I always forget that fentanyl takes effect pretty much immediately and it's so strong. Unfortunately, I'm a recovering addict. I could probably run into a cloud of fentanyl and not even feel it 😂. Happy this officer recognized that he had inhaled some and got help from the other officer. Fentanyl is no joke and the withdrawal is hell. Stay safe, stay clean. ❤

It's been proven that coming into contact alone doesn't cause an overdose. They've done studies with officers and they actually end up freaking themselves out thinking their overdosing.

"This has never happened, " said Dr. Ryan Marino, a toxicologist and emergency room physician who studies addiction at Case Western Reserve University. "There has never been an overdose through skin contact or accidentally inhaling fentanyl." "Fentanyl does not pass through the skin efficiently or well." "The dry powder form that's encountered in street drugs is not going to pass through the skin in any meaningful way." Researchers also say that the risk of fentanyl powder poisoning someone when it's airborne like dust is extremely low. These officers are displaying symptoms of stress and fear, not opiod overdose.

As a former, first responder, firefighter & EMT, I believe every person should carry Narcan It will legitimately, save lives, and worst case scenario you have Narcan. Many health departments will give it for free upon request, I have carried for a while, because someone can be lost very fast without it

Simply amazing how this crazy drug works. 99% of the population is fine if they come into contact with it. But if you happen to be a sworn peace officer just getting close to it causes overdoses.

As someone that has been a law enforcement officer and an EMT please allow me to emphasize that this isn't how it works. That's an anxiety attack.

They've told cops over and over that mere exposure does nothing. They have panic attacks over it.

This isn't what happens from an overdose. This is what happens from a panic attack.

His partner sounded so calm. Great to have a partner like that.

They need to train officers on how to handle fentanyl, so they can stop having panic attacks when they think theyve been exposed.

It doesn't matter if that's how it works or not. It's ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. Coming into contact with it directly or having a panic attack "thinking" you've been exposed, this officer put his life on the line, getting this crap off the street. I, for one, thank you, sir, for your service and all your brothers and sisters doing the same.

I'm adding a reply due to some comments: From this video, we CAN SEE a bottle of pills, and the officer wearing gloves. HOWEVER, we CAN'T SEE 1- How he was exposed. 2- What form he was exposed to. 3- What amount he was exposed to 4 - There could have been a bag of powder IN the bottle of pills ... So I stand by my original statement.

I had an accidental overdose from my Dr prescribed opioids in 2017 and thank God for Narcan. It took 3 doses to bring me back & I was in the ICU for 10 days & my kidneys shut down.

This is such a lie. I know from experience that it doesn't work like this at all. They should put people in jail for acting like that.

Gosh this pisses me off. Secure the damn border and rid this country of those drugs!

I was given fentanyl once in the ER for pain. I had a horrible, violent reaction to it. I was just grateful to still be in the ER when it happened.
