Community members are demanding changes at the state level as a teenager arrested Tuesday in connection with a homicide over the weekend in Columbia faces seven adult charges, including murder.

Tracee Octavious Parker, 17, is charged with first-degree murder for killing 26-year-old Kendrick McLellan. Investigators said he was found shot to death in a car on Centre Park Drive in the early morning of Oct. 12.

Parker was arrested at Howard High School on Tuesday, where he is a student. A loaded gun was found in his backpack, retrofitted to work as a machine gun, according to investigators.

Unbelievable how many times they had to say “wait there’s more” or wait it gets better. The philosophy of some public officials is to bend over backwards for juvenile criminals in the hope of turning them around even if it harms or places at risk numerous other people. Governor Moore needs to act now
