The Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday night to renew the charter for the Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys.

Two separate votes at last week's meeting ended in a tie, so commissioners deferred the vote to this week.

This final vote comes after a detailed presentation at Tuesday night's meeting showed that the school is succeeding financially and academically.

The renewal comes with conditions. The school must avoid serious violations that could jeopardize students' well-being and safety. Conditions include hiring experienced local personnel and compliance with state regulations for coursework.

Since City Schools announced the school was in danger of losing its charter, there has been an outpouring of support.

Last week, City Schools CEO Sonja Santelises recommended renewing the charter with several conditions, like hiring more qualified teachers, complying with course requirements and school discipline procedures.
