Before I left California (thank you, Jesus) 9 years ago for the State of Tennessee, my mother transferred my late father's Mdl 65 to me. I didn't even have to endure the 10 day waiting period and took possession the same day. It being California, I was shocked at how easy it was.
And that's the last nice thing you'll hear me say about California.

In Alaska it was once common to give rifles to the pallbearers of a funeral. Most of those were new purchases.

Two Christmases ago, I sent my two children Ruger American Flag cerakoted AR pistols. One child lives in the same state as I and the other in a different state. I mailed them both to FFLs in each of their cities and contacted the FFL to call them before Christmas to pick them up and I paid for the transfer. The one in my state got theirs with no problem. The other was returned to the post office when the FFL was closed and they tried to deliver it. My child went to the post office to find out about redelivering it to the FFL and the post office gave it directly to her. What!? I spoke with my child and told them to take it right to the FFL just to make sure there was no problem, but I couldn't believe they gave it to my child. Amazing.

Im in PA, I gave Ar's to all my nephews, brothers, and sister. I also gave handguns to 2 of my nephews without transfer with no problem. Here you're permitted to give firearms to immediate family without transfer.

I've done it, they had a handgun on an unbelievable sale so I bought one for my parents, in-laws, wife and kids. They're all in state and legal responsible adults and I test fired them all before I gave them as presents. It's a great present, it ships to you and it shows that you care about their safety.

MD calls themselves the "Free State" but has extremely restrictive laws about what defines the "transfer" of a firearm.

I live in Louisiana, my brother lives in Arkansas. I would have to go to an FFL to give him a gun? That is NUTS! That is crazy for either long gun or pistol.

Thank you, Emily, for saying “Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah“. I am Jewish, but non-religious and I appreciate the acknowledgment.

My dad asked me this one day if he were to hypothetically gift me a gun and I somehow had a police interaction.

I told him I'd exercise my 4th and 5th Amendment rights. Never consent to search. Never answer questions without an attorney. I don't have to prove that I lawfully obtained it, they have to prove that I unlawfully obtained it.
