Rock that floats in water: PUMICE (stone from volcanic eruptions)

Показать описание
All rocks but one, pumice, drown in water because they are denser than this substance. Pumice is understood as a stone formed from hardened foam of lava, which is created after the volcanic eruption.

This type of stone has a bubbly texture because highly pressurized gases are gashing though its molten form during the eruption. The simultaneous cooling and depressurization freezes the bubbles and that is how such type of a rock it being formed.

These days the only rock, which is capable of floating in water, is being used in as an abrasive in cosmetology and beauty salons and in gardening to provide good aeration for the plants, when mixed with soil.

From our interactive video presentation you will learn about such things:

- supervolcanoes and how its eruption can possibly change the global climate and life on Earth;

- how unusually beautiful sunsets may be directly connected to the volcanoes;

- Paricutin as the fastest growing volcano in the 20th century;

- and many more!

Thanks for your time and please check out our other presentations.

A rock that floats? For most people, that’s just unheard of; at least until they’ve read about Pumice. I’m sure this knowledge caught a lot of us off guard. Don’t lie, it surprised you too.
