I feel like they didn't apply the adhesive because they knew you were going to disconnect stuff to replace the screen

Hmm, so you've replaced the bottom part of the macbook, then replaced the top part of the macbook. XD

So, basically, everything got replaced, not repaired.

Reminds me of the story "This axe has been in the family for 100 years and was handed down from my great-grandfather. Since I started using it the handle's been replaced twice and the head three times."

Title: got a 2017 Mac book for 20$
Reality: got a 2017 MacBook broken for 20$ and a refurbished iPhone 6 Plus a bunch of parts that I bought.

What kind of engineers thought it was a good idea to weld the keyboard into the shell so that even a single fault key would require the whole thing including the battery to fix it? Were they designing a disposable laptop or something?

Would it be possible to remove the logic board and battery, put it in a custom made case, and use it as a makeshift Mac mini? That would be an interesting video to watch.

Great video as always Hugh. In my experience, I've never had an SSD "wear out". I'm typing this on my 2012 macbook air (4gb/128gb) that has had nothing replaced, and the SSD still works fine. The battery isn't great but I only use it at home or the office so it's always plugged in anyway. I'm looking to upgrade next year, but pretty happy to get 10 years use out of an entry-level apple laptop. Keep up the good work.

Y'all saying the person that sold it was a fool, well u r wrong as he said it cost him
600 dollars
Now think if the actual owner tried to replace it himself or a third party watch the price double, or triple if through apple

He is not about to waste that money when he can get something better on the used market .

The font for the “MacBook Pro” looks very fake other than that tho id totally buy the broken computer for $20 and a 6s. Just plug it into a monitor and its a desktop

The built-in keyboard and trackpad on these mid-2017 “function keys” MacBook Pros don't normally show up in System Information under USB. They do however show up using the command line querying tool `ioreg` under one of the PCIe buses (sharing the bus with an actuator and accelerometer). Source: I own the same model, fully working.

"Traded iphone 6s and $20" oh but in the thumbnail this is my $20 macbook.

"today we are going to be renewing this 2017 MacBook Pro."
Sends it to apple and replaces the screen

Great deal even if you couldn't repair the laptop. By adding the external monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power supply, you had a fully functional MacBook desktop.

You forgot to tick the "This video contains paid sponsorship" box :P

$20 for that thing is a steal even with the value of a 6s added.

Apple: repairs cost 1000$
Hugh Jeffreys: *repairs it*
Apple: wait, that’s illegal

How the f*ck did they accept that machine under their replacement program lol...

Did they not realise the the display assembly is space gray, whilst the top case is silver?
That means someone has swapped parts which means they shouldnt accept it under ANY replacement program lmao

Jeffrey restoring devices and machines is more satisfying to me than any other thing in this world ❤️
