Honda Z50 Sitting in the Woods for 20 Years, Can We Resurrect It?

We bring a classic Honda Z50 mini bike back from the brink! We found and bought 8 Honda Z50s that had been sitting in the woods for 20 years- so far we’ve made there of them run, and in today’s video, we’re working on the fourth. The wheels, seats, fuel tanks, and engine components are so badly deteriorated that out of five remaining parts bikes, we struggled to build one more complete mini bike. We chose to work on the silver tag Z50, which was originally orange but has faded to silver over the years in the sun. A guy from the DMV comes by and helps us get the ball rolling on getting titles for these little motorcycles so we can ride them on the road!

Thanks for Watching!

After watching James May assemble a mint one of these, it’s so nice to see these old things being revived and you can appreciate their wonderful simplicity.

Hey I notice that y’all use bbs often for fuel tanks cleaning. Might I recommend using broken glass from a car door. Easily obtainable from a junk yard. The glass breaks up into small squares and gives an edge to scrape the inside of the tank where bbs are smooth and I find glass does better.

Brilliant use of an old brake lathe!! I've turned some strange stuff including a flywheel, but never a rock tumbler gas tank cleaner. Genius!!

I got a trail 50 in 1968 for Christmas and it started a life long love of two wheeled motorized vehicles! I have a Harley Electra Glide now and I still get that thrill when I ride on a cold day!!

i watch every mini bike rebuild 2 or 3 times a year just love seeing my times history come back alive and johns editing is so subtle you don't realize the time he puts in and add the banter and you have a channel that needs to be picked up by a network

Epic burnout. Cool seeing tanks I would have thought too far gone actually made usable again, without too much hassle.

The Orange z50 is a 1974, there is no such thing as a silver tag on them. Most of them were orange in 1974 although there was a couple other options. The Yellow Z50s are all 1976 as it was a one year only color. Hope this helps! Good luck with the projects!

We had an old mini trail in the early 70's with a solid rear. The whole neighborhood beat the living crap out of that thing but it never stopped on us. Sure wish i still had that thing

When I worked as a tech at a BMW Triumph dealer, all we used was the POR-15. It's great stuff.
