Medical coders take medical records and translate them into code sets that are submitted for billing to receive payments for hospitals and healthcare providers.

Almost all medical coding jobs require coders to be certified through AAPC or AHIMA. Medical coding is not a quick task to learn and can take months to master and thousands of dollars. It also requires annual membership fees, annual book expenses, and you have to be committed to continuing education.

I coded for a dental office for 4 years then decided to go back to college and became a Sonographer. 6 years later, I'm wanting to get back into billing/coding. I feel like I'm starting from scratch. SO, this is great. So the main idea here is that you have to get proficient with working those books, getting to know those books to find those codes.

Medical coding is a good career. I took this course in school but I didn’t took the exam and I wish I could. Right now I would have a good start in my life. I went for nursing but is so tedious! :( I am trying to survive and become a Nurse. I just wish I could have done coding. Do your research okay.
