I'm going to fine you for any and all puns going forward.

Nice one again. My personal taste: I like the Audio Technica better with your voice. A bit warmer more radio-ish 😁

Big thing I noticed, the AT isolated your voice better, not picking up reflections off the wall. This is one issue I have with my podmic, in my own space, it picks up those room reflections.

I'm gonna skip adding to the voices on either side of the showdown and simply say that I love the creativity of how you added the plug for Artlist. Also, it's cool to see the upgrade on your desk setup adding the monitor mount so that you can stand up for videos as another option. Awesome Tom!

I own both of these mics and for my voice I prefer the AT. The podmic is just too highs-forward for me. The AT seems to be more balanced.

AT2040 has a much better, smoother sound, maybe a wider dynamic range. The Podmic seems to have a narrow frequency response. In this test, with your voice the AT2040 is clearly a better sounding mic right out of the box. Listening with Sony MDR 7506 headphones.

Battle of the thick and thin. For my voice, the AT2040 would win out. But short of an A/B comparison, I don't think anyone will complain about the sound of either one.

In the past, I probably would have preferred the PodMic. With many years of mic testing myself, I easily prefer the sound of AT2040 for this application. The PodMic just sounds thin IMO. The AT2040 just sounds great out of the box. Great video!

I bought the Rode PodMic based off of Tom Buck's recommendation. This mic is awesome. I wouldn't have found it otherwise (as I'm new to this stuff). I'm extremely happy with my purchase. It's like a night and day difference between the Blue Yeti I had previously tried. Thank you for all of your help.

i'd be interested in hearing what a woman's voice would sound like. men's voices have more bass and women's have a higher tone. p.s. i love the puns.

Hello! Thank you for your great review! I´ve purchased my Podmic (will arrive on monday), but I started seeing some reviews comparing with this AT2040. Do you think it´s better for me to change my order? I will use the mic for voice over and singing (I don´t have a treated room). What´s your opinion? Thank you in advance.

I have the RODE Podmic… it’s been Meh, because it leaves me wanting more!

With your comparison, it sounds like the Podmic is being recorded in a tin can! The AT2040 just sounds more clean and full.

Wow… they sound so different. Both good. I think it matters if you are listening to content with or without video! The audiotechnica, I think, I prefer WITHOUT watching the video, LOL. it’s very radio sounding which sounds strange if you can see the speaker… it almost emphasizes the audio quality if you got video with the content. I made a read-through of a chapter I wrote for students, and I totally overdid the bass boost on pod mic, I didn’t realize until now that it was because you can SEE me that exaggerated how much I don’t sound like that in real life Lolol

I love Audio Technica, I will defend their condenser mics even though I've been using Neumann for about a year now. BUT that being said, I can't use the AT2040. Even with EQ I can't get it to sound good, no matter what. It's super disappointing because I really wanted to like it, but I just can't

Thanks again for another great comparison Tom! I have 4 Pod mics with my RodeCastor Pro but I love the sound coming from AT2040.

Great comparison. Sound is really subjective, comes down to preference, I think the podmic sounds better but the AT2040 is great too🤷🏻‍♂️
