Stiff brush- $5, use forever.

Well I'm sold, awesome tip!

Exactly what I was looking for. I remember watching a contractor doing that, but did not remember the details. A can of spray texture is over $15. This technique saves a lot of money.

Am I the only one that feels stupid for not knowing this before? Thank you USG!

Excellent. I've been using this technique..just found out about it.
$19 for a can that I barely got one wall of holes done.
$10 for a bag of compound.
I did have to find the right mix or water to mud. I tried 3 to 2, mix to water...and that was too thin. I may try 2 to 1 next time.
Have to find the right consistency. I was off and it ran down the wall.
And its like beat the clock before it hardens. I try doing them in small batches so I can do a wall at a time.

And I had like 5 different brushes to choose from hanging around my house. I find the harder the better...
But then have to watch how close or far away you are.

It is 2 things though. Getting the texture on there...but then coming back later and getting it to blend with existing texture.

So simple. I spent probably $200 on cans of texture before.
This is great for jobs I don't want or need to bring the hopper out for. And I just do a wall or 2 everyday after work.
Small batch and manageable.
The hopper...that's like...have to prepare everywhere so u can do it all in one go.
This is convenience of the can...but 1/1000th of the price.

Wish i had found this before trying the roller technique, which works ok for knockdown but less good for orange peel.

I just dipped my fingers in the mud and flick my fingers at wall..looks pretty good and very convenient in you're in a pinch. If you turn your palm up while you flick you'll avoid most of the long streak lines and get the speckles.

Great video. I will try this on a knockdown ceiling patch. The spray can stuff is expensive, really messy and hard to apply correctly.

You can also load the brush and dab the wall. If you don’t like the results, scrape it off and go again. Trial and error and eventually success. I came to YouTube real quick to see about flicking for texture so I could see what other people are using as far as a brush to apply the material. I’m just wondering what type of tool could I use that would help me do large areas that isn’t a spray hopper. I’m thinking something like a floor brush, like a push broom and maybe cut it into thirds and then bind the thirds together with zip ties or even a flat piece of wood and screw the pieces in you can put a handle on the back and then you would just need a tray to put the material in.
When I get the gusto together to start my own YouTube channel or even just start some videos, I’ll make sure to put one up about this. Who knows maybe because I’ve put this out there somebody’s gonna snag my idea, but that’s what it’s all about is sharing and getting that stuff out there.

Great video, I also did a video with a whisk brush that works pretty good and can help in pop corn ceiling repairs.
