How To Adjust The Idle Speed On A Dirtbike

Here’s how to adjust the idle speed on a dirtbike. In this video I am just in the idle on my Honda CRF 150 F motorcycle. It has a single carb on it, and there is a screw on the side of the carburetor that you can turn clockwise to increase the idle speed, or turn counterclockwise to decrease the idle speed of the engine. When you are setting the idle speed on the dirtbike, you need to make sure that the engine is all the way warmed up before you start, and then turn the screw clockwise to increase the idle speed, and turn it counterclockwise to decrease the idle speed. Then rev up the engine and see if it returns back down to a normal idle when you close the throttle. If it does, then it’s adjusted properly. If it stays revving high, you need to turn the idle speed adjuster screw out a little bit more counter clockwise. Watch this video if you need to adjust the idle speed on your dirtbike motorcycle.

My bike dies when idling even after it's been warmed up and rode for a while. Would this fix the problem or could that be something different?

Exactly what’s happening with me. I adjusted to a good idle sound, twist throttle, it revs and does not come back down for a while. Finding sweet spot is the trick.

Any suggestions?

At the moment my big bored XR200R is running about 1750rpm choke off, then not quite idling cutting out about 750rpm choke on. If I adjust the screws it barely makes a difference or just cuts out needle on 3rd notch, going to put on 2nd notch tomorrow and see what happens, it's a just built from scratch engine and bike.

I know this is a old post an don’t know if I’ll get a reply but my dirt bike had high revving problems I took the carb off cleaned it etc and put the throttle cable back on right I made sure of it. So now it’s still revs somewhat high mabie 2500 rpm’s but when I pull the throttle it stays at whatever rpm’s I pulled it to for about 3 seconds an then works itself back to the 2500 rpm’s. What could cause that issue. Thanks.

My dirt bike has the problem you mentioned about where it will idle and when reved up the throttle sticks at 3k rpm. When idle screw is adjusted it will idle again. Plus carb cleaned twice. What could be the problem? Thanks

Same bike won’t idle and that screw does not change a thing for the idle on mine. All the way in or out does not seem to matter?

I want to turn it but I’m afraid it will mess up the timeing on my carburetor. Is that a concern or no? Cuz I use to mess with idle screw on my old car but I don’t wanna mess up my Yamaha royal ⭐️ by messing with the idle

My screw is turned all the way to the right and it still bogs out and dies.
