I have an uncle who drank for decades. He has been sober nearly 20 years, but he is BLANK! His brain has atrophied and it is evidenced by his entire existence. His decades long alcohol abuse compounded by (former) marijuana use has made him null and void physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually as if his very soul is just numbed out. In addition the negative aspects of anger, mean spiritedness, withdrawal from life etc are all wildly accentuated. So sad.

45 years ago I drunk my last sip of the most impaired drug there is and I will never look back. Proud of myself!

I started drinking 2 years ago. But as the depression grew deeper so did my alchohol consumption. Thank you for reminding me that you lose brain cells due to alchohol. Still got enough time to quit without ill effects.

Since everyone else is telling about how/when they quit drinking… At age thirteen I started hanging out with my friends brothers and friends, they were bikers and since my siblings were also 10 yrs + older than me this wasn’t abnormal. These guys had the best parties at my friends house. This was back in the 70’s. I quit drinking right after my 21st birthday and haven’t touched it since…. No regrets

Ever since I started keto (thanks to help from your videos) 16 months ago, I stopped drinking, and lost 50 pounds haven't felt better and don't desire a drink, and I drank atleast 6 beers a day before I started my diet. So thanks for all of the knowledge in your videos!

I quit drinking 3 1/2 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did for myself. For close to 30 years I used alcohol to self medicate my essential tremor. For the last 10 years or so of that it was more about feeling normal than anything though. The tremors were way worse after alcohol and the process became this self feeding monster. Today I find that I'm much more capable of just living with a little bit of tremor than having to "doctor" the bad ones ALL of the time.
For anyone who is the slightest bit interested in quitting or even cutting back, I can't recommend Annie Grace's book "This Naked Mind" enough. She saved my life. She also has a podcast that is well worth listening to. Give her a try. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I officially haven’t drank in 1 year this past 4th of July woo hoo!! Not one drink!!! And before that I only had 3 drinks… so 3 drinks in 2 years 🎉 🎈 🎊 I downloaded an AA app just to keep track. I wasn’t an alcoholic by no means but I cut it out completely

3 years sober here! Best thing I ever did for my health. I'm 44, raising 4 daughters....It's so easy to maintain my 128 lbs at 5 ft
I quit because I was making stupid choices around food and driving and also engaging in outrageous inappropriate behavior. Also I noticed that whenever I would drink I would start getting water retention and these huge chipmunk cheeks. I know I was starting to poison myself.

I haven't drank alcohol (wine included) since 1995 or '96. Didn't have a problem but stopped for multiple other reasons. I notice how much people make a big deal about a liquid and the drama it causes. It's also way overpriced.

I stopped drinking all alcohol after my first year of college, which I spent at a drunken fraternity.

Many years later, I still have not been a drinker at all, though on occasion I have had champagne or stuff like that.
Now, everyone I know freaks out but how great my memory is. I remember everything, fine detailed technical stuff everything. I attribute this to my lack of alcohol consumption--though I didn't do a double-blind clinical trial.

First comment. Just completed 2 weeks of no drinking. I feel clearer and more confident.

Even beyond just a hangover, I always find my mood and motivation adversely affected by consuming alcohol for days afterward.

What timing, I decided to “take a break” from alcohol 4 years ago today! It was the first conscious choice I’d made to take better care of myself and one of the best - I never went back. A landslide of positive feelings and good decisions have accumulated ever since… nice to see you all here :)
