Don't look down to people in Brazil. Once a French family asked me on the street for some directions. We were at downtown Rio de Janeiro. I gave the directions and then the father of the family offered me a tip, like an one or two Euros bill. A tip? I have 6 figures investments in several banks, some of then abroad. You don't have to tip anyone for just some directions. If I were a tourist guide, OK, but some randon dude on the street? We do it for free, because we like the tourists.

Corumbá is the city I want to see most of all followed by Rio. It's my dream to see the Cerrado and Pantanal and speak to the locals in Brazilian Portuguese and just get immersed in the culture and wildlife.

Oh yep! Don’t say our capital is Buenos Aires! And I’m a southerner and our culture in southern Brazil relates so much to Uruguay and Argentina, but our capital is Brasilia!
One thing that upsets me as a Brazilian living abroad is: stereotyping us!
Do not assume every Brazilian likes being hugged ou touched for a randomly tourist! Not every Brazilian likes carnival ou have ever been to Rio our the the Amazon Forest😂. Brazil is huge! Pretty much the same size as the USA!
And that every Brazilian likes carnival, partying our soccer! I liked volleyball, F1 and car racing!
I myself, do not like people touching me, hugging me, loud music, party neighbors (unless they have invented me😂).
Yes, we are kind, helpful, we like good barbecue (Brazilian style of course). But he do not appreciate being stereotypical.
Mark does a great job showing Brazil around! I guess nowadays he’s more Brazilian than me!😂😂
Well, I’m a diferente kind of Brazilian brand!😂😂😂 but as me I’m pretty sure there’s someone thinking like me.

Obviously both are very different but I noticed some similarities between here and Chicago. Both are viewed as poverty and crime ridden places that are dangerous to visit, but both have amazing sites and are definitely worth your time. On top of that you don’t mess with hot dogs in either place.

Great advice. Good to know because I may finally get to go there soon.

It is a relief when someone with a great travel background like you describes very well our country... Please consider yourself a honor Brazilian citizen, because it is not easy to absorb culture like ours, and be able to make other aware of it smoothly like you do. It is a blessing when someone make effort to understand local culture and customs, that is not easy. Thanks for your Brazilian insights!

The most upsetting thing to a Brazilian is when foreigners think "Brazilian" is a language. Just like "American" is not a language, Brazilian is not a language either, we speak Portuguese! 😆

By telling them Maradona is better than Pele. By reminding them of the 7-1 against Germany.

I really loved that you guys came to Brazil! I agree about the pontuality thing for parties: when you get to a party at the time the host said you should, you would be considered “arroz de festa” (it translates to ‘party rice’), because there is always rice at our parties from begining to end and it’s usually the first thing we put on our plates lol but if you’re going to a small gathering, with dinner being served or any other scheduled activity, you should get there on time (and when I say on time, I mean 10 to 15 minutes late lol).

Also, I don’t know if you guys had different experiences, but the things that you said that makes us mad, like the team jerseys, the hot dogs or the Argentina topic is not really something to piss a brazilian off — we would probably just complain as a conversation starter lol

Exception would be if a gringo was talking bad things about our country, specially if said gringo is from the US, Europe, etc. That really piss us off, because we love our country and don’t accept people feeling superior than us, specially just because they were born in a different country.

Great insights into Brazilian culture! I loved the reminders about hand signals and hot dogs 😄 By the way, I subscribed to your channel.

You can make them mad by pointing out that the Wright Brothers invented the airplane. The idea that Dumont was the “true” inventor of the airplane is a huge piece of national mythology, even though he flew three years after the Wright Brothers.

Saying that Maradona is better than Pelé is worse than saying that LeBron is the GOAT

Omg I wana visit now. There is something about people in hot tropical countries that makes them so welcoming, loud and party like crazy. Countries where locals are reserved and stuck up are honestly no fun. And no surprises a lot of these countries are in the higher latitudes where it's cold. Just like their residents. Not saying which countries
