Such a sad story. My family came to America before the revolution. Hard for me to watch the cartoon knowing the real history

Supposedly when the army arrived they found Joy wandering the house howling for his master. Poor dog

This Anastasia was based on a woman who claimed she was Anastasia. Though her case didn't go through because of WW2, it was weird to note that she have the same medical circumstances like the duchess. Some say the dog died along with them during the killing and that no one survive that day, not even the servants and doctor.

Actually both Alexei and Anastasia survived the initial attack but not too long ago it was confirmed that some remains near the ex3cution were theirs.

I'm glad that somebody found it in his heart to rescue that poor dog.

King George probably felt terrible about it that's why he allowed Joy to live out her days at Windsor

Yes I knew about it. Rescued because he was adorable. And Anastasia was believed to have survived because her body was not found. It was in 2009 or something

The movie is entirely loosely based on the character of Anastasia, what people's opinion of her probably was and the writer's opinion, it's another way to remember the family's history and what tangibility had they've left behind

Oh wow I didn’t know about Joy. I actually love the Romanov family and have spent so much time learning all about them, but I don’t know much about their pets. Thanks for sharing this story. ❤

In real life Anastasia and Alexei were very close, neither of them liked sitting still for long and they both liked mischief and pranks (you could write a book just about their pranks and funny things that they did!), Anastasia soon learned that her little brother was always game for a spot of mischief and they seemed to be able to read each other's minds.

Alexei had a limp after an accident in 1912, he had a hernia so they fixed it with surgery (the idea being by the time of the 300 year anniversary of Romanov rule festivities the year after he would be fully recovered and well enough to take part) but then he had a minor bump jumping into a boat which he seemed to recover from but then not long after while on holiday in Poland he started bleeding and wouldn't stop bleeding and for days on end he was at death's door and the priests even administered the last rites because everyone thought he was a goner but then Rasputin saved him by sending a telegram with useful advice and he started getting better. It was a year before he could walk again and incidentally at the 300 years celebrations he hurt his ankle or something and had to be carried about by a giant Cossack which didn't help the rumours about his health; the public didn't know what was wrong with him but they knew something was up.

One of Alexei's most famous pranks took place on his 13th birthday which it so happened was the day before the Imperial family left the Palace for the last time. Alexei posed for a photo by a lake with his eldest sister Olga and as he later wrote in his diary "threw Olga fully clothed into the lake!"

They knew Joy was Alexei's dog when they found it in the Ipatiev house because it understood English.

I didnt know the story was real until this, i didnt realize how much I related to it, I had family immigrate from Russia to the US in 1905 because my family wanted to live in peace and not war. Such a sad story

While I wouldn't want anyone, who didn't deserve it, to be taken out. It never sat right with me that they also took out the kids in this family. Why the kids? They didn't do whatever it was that was so wrong.

Another inaccuracy in the movie: Anastasia marries Dimitri at the end of the film. Dimitri was a commoner con artist. In real life royals weren't allowed to marry anyone less than a royal. If they married a commoner, the royal and their future children would be disinherited.

Just looking at this, it makes sense that Alexei could have been alive.
