Basically this game is "mind your business and you'll be fine" While the Maniac is a scary figure he will not kill you unless you bother him. He'll just spook you but you'll be able to focus on your task and get back to safety

This game reminds of that ritual I barely remember reading years ago. It was when you use the elevator 3, 7, and 4 times (not continuously), you will be sent to the other side, never to able to come back to the mortal world again. You can only come back if the “visitors” in the floor 3, 7 and 4 are out in their respective floors where they came from, then you can come back. I never tried it though.

I originally thought Into the Darkness was a prequel and we were the dead person in "wrong floor".

After paying more attention to the clothes the dead person in the basement is wearing the clothes that the missing person was wearing.

But in Into The Darkness, there's a body in the bathroom with the same outfit.

Another theory I had was that the maniac was a tortured person maybe one that the grandpa hurt and he's getting revenge. I thought the manic was raised like some wild animal or someone who lives in dark spaces.

Either way it's a chilling story.
