I cry every time I hear this. As a person with daddy issues, seeing his father saying "I'm so proud of you" made me cry so hard wishing my dad said something like that to me. I'm so happy and proud of Johnny. He is, in fact, still standing, and he is better than he's ever been.

I think the reason most people find this better than the actual song is that there's a bit of goofiness and John just laid out his emotions perfectly that it reaches our hearts

if you think of johnny’s situation in life, this song bloody emotional, speaking of how he is still standing strong, despite all that had happened to him, how he was treated and forced to go on heists, and now his dad is in prison, johnny is a strong monke.
