If divisor is 2x - 1, we do synthetic division by 1/2. That takes care of (x - 1/2) factor. Since 2x - 1 = 2(x - 1/2), we have to further divided the Quotient by 2.

Remainder Theorem: P(a) is the remainder when polynomial P(x) is divided by (x - a). If the remainder is zero then (x - a) is factor. That is how factor and remainder theorem are related. Division statement relates the polynomial divisor, quotient, dividend and remainder. Division statement and the remainder theorem can be used to find the remainder when a polynomial is divided by higher degree polynomials in factored form. Playlist has many test questions for students to understand the concepts and apply the strategies learned.

Can you explain why the remainder doesn't need to be divided by 2 a little more in depth? I don't understand your comment below.

If the quotient indeed needs to be divided by 2, why doesn't the remainder also?
