In this lesson, the teacher introduces five new sight words -- words that have to be memorized because they don't follow any particular rules for sounding out words. The teacher reads each sight word and uses it in a sentence, and then all the students read the sight words together. Then she asks one child at a time to pick a sight word and use it in a complete sentence. They end by reading the words together once more.

I am teaching English to non native English kids... They finished now the letter sound they know how to read and i think they are ready now to move to sight words.. The problem is they dont have much or enough vocabularies... When i talk in english... They understand but they cant reply or talk in english... I didnt teach English to kids before so i am gaining the knowledge from the YouTube from other experts available in YouTube.... Sometimes i feel lost but when i see how my kids start to read and i sense their i feel satisfied and thankful for God then for all teacher i learnt from virtually.... God Bless you all....

My 2.5 year old is mastering 3 letter word blends (cvc). She can't yet write so i am happy to see a very easy way to introduce sight words. I'm not a teacher, my husband and i simply can't afford day care, nursery school, or pre-school even though we both work. So we've taken the initiative to teach her at home. I get ALL ideas from YouTube so thank you very much.

Well, this video is amazing. And I'd like to share a piece of my ideas. Some sight words don't follow any rules or patterns, but words like 'that' or 'with' do follow rules because we can actually use phonics to read them.

Thank you for the demonstration! But I still can't quite understand why a lot of words which fall into category of sight words follow some phonic patterns. Wouldn't it be easier just to use phonics for reading such words as 'with', 'that', 'this', 'from' etc?

after introducing these words, what activities and lessons did you do to practise these words.

Some don't follow rules and some need to be memorized in early stages as their rules come later but their use comes earlier .

Love how you teach! We are voracious readers and love to read to kids! Hope you can all stop by and read with us too! Also, we are always looking for suggestions for what you'd like us to read - so please let us know!🤓

Not all sight words are not decodable. . You should go over the letters in each word . What about asking what do you notice about the word. Also, the students need to write the words as well.

Teaching way is too dry .. I mean the teacher herself is so concious. It should not be like that. Atleast she should smile.

I think most of these words are regular and easy to decode - they don't need memorising. eg from - why would you need to memorise this word?

If I were the teacher I would have written a sentence next to each sight word for students to see how that word is used in a full sentence rather than sit and talk. I mean teachers should take advantage of the whiteboard at all times. Just saying.

the words are too small, not flash cards at all.
