When I was in the third grade, I brought a mantis egg case home and placed it in a tray in the living room.
Thought it was a moth cocoon. Wow! In a few weeks hundreds of baby mantids were everywhere!

I ran into a baby mantid on my mailbox several years ago. It actually stood its ground as if ready to do battle. I just took a picture of it and left it to its life. Very cute.

I've hatched several mantis ootheca. The babies aren't easy to raise, but getting them adulthood is very rewarding. They are such good pets.

I live in Massachusetts, is a field near my house where around this time of year....I can walk into the field an there are literally THOUSANDS of Mantis nests. Took one home last year and when it hatched HUNDREDS came out when it hatched. Placed them in the bush outside my house and within a month to 6 had so many praying mantis adults all around the house. It's amazing how fast they can grow from that tiny speck to a four inch adult.
