Do They Work? Colorescience SPF Powder, Skinnies 'Pea-Sized Amount' | Lab Muffin Beauty Science

I've had a lot of questions about what I think of some sunscreen products with unusual claims - in this video I talk about whether Colorescience's powder sunscreen gives SPF 50, and whether you can really just apply a pea-sized amount of Skinnies sunscreen.

Erratum: I messed up a little in explaining the methodology for calculating the weighted average for the Colorescience powder - they used the minimum for the lowest time bracket, then the midpoint for the others, so their estimate was less conservative than what I described.

So glad you talked about Color Science! I think they really want you to use their powder over their lotion sunscreens throughout the day - along with their eye and make up SPF products. My biggest issue with companies like C.S is how outrageously expensive they are if you want to use the proper about of sunscreen day in and day out. Their latest product is $100 for a tiny tube.

I’m at a place where I really enjoy Skinnies, but always apply more than they suggest! Just don’t want to risk it, but the texture of their product is lovely! And that it’s fragrance free which is great for my husband!

I spent the entire last November in a car, with no air conditioning, driving for 6hours each day and sweating profusely. Colorscience worked. I reapplied it every two to three hours. My existing pigmentation did not darken and I did not develop any new hyperpigmentation. When I washed it of in the evenings with my oil cleanser, it would still be there. It stayed intact. It's very expensive but worth every penny. I applied it liberally and the tube lasted 2 months. I would definitely recommend it for reapplication on top of makeup or bare skin.🇿🇦

I’ve been using Skinnies almost everyday for about a year and absolutely love it. It feels great on my skin and I’ve never burned while wearing it. On days that I’ll be mostly inside I use the pea size, if I know I’m going to be outside a lot I use more just in case.

I originally bought both the SPF 30 and SPF 50 and I much prefer the SPF 50. It has a much longer effective time (4hrs) and does not smell chemically. It’s marketed as “Sport”, but it feels more like skincare and looks great under my makeup while the SPF 30 feels more sunscreeny.

While the brand seems pricy at first, a little really does go along way and the bottles have lasted several months.

For newcomers: The difference in consistency takes a couple days to get used to when switching from water based, but it’s so worth it. At first you get the sense that if feels greasy because it’s oil based, but that feeling goes away. It has never made me breakout.

Recently our NZ Consumer Magazine tested several sunscreens available here (which they do every year) and Skinnies Conqueror with Manuka Honey was one of four that passed that testing at the SPF they stated. Thank you for this video! It pretty much confirms what I suspected - do not rely on one method of protection to be completely safe.

I've been using the Sunforgettable Brush for 6 years, it's the only sunscreen I've trued that my rosacea skin likes. I take about 4-5 minutes to apply, sometimes more. I take my sunscreeen application seriously, because it's the only one I use, my skin flares up with cream or milk based sunscreens. I'm skin is hyper-reactive, the Sunfortegtable brush has saved my I use alot of it! But it's the only sunscreen that works for me. Thank You for your great video!

I love that Colorescience spf but there’s a huge problem with the applicator. I have to physically tear out bristles from the center of the brush to get enough powder out. I can’t imagine how light the application would be otherwise.

I’m so happy you looked into the Skinnies sunscreen. I’ve been really interested in it, but confused how well a small amount would cover the entire face. I kept thinking that it would leave some spots bare, or without sufficient protection. Great video, as always ❤️
