Kirk has said he was getting Lessons from Satriani through Justice which makes sense especially on Justice with all of the whammy bar work, chromatic and diminished runs connected together with some pentatonic licks The solos on that album are some of my favorites of his.

I like Kirk's solos made of the natural minor scale compared to any from Friedman. Don't know why. But nowadays it's non existent, almost.

The solo record he released, i listened to it once, but it was more sophisticated thn anything in metallica. So much that I had to wonder if he really wrote the songs.

When i was a very young Rocker ( 6 or 7 ) i heard trapped under ice..i was hooked until they released load..then i haven't cared bout them since..moved on to black metal..and haven't looked back..i still think those albums had magic to them..the first four forsure..but starting with the black album..they started nosediving fast..i have never thought kirk was that great of a guitar player..james on the other hand i do

I think the only the only song that can back up Kirk's creativity is the solo from blackend that they released during covid lock down. (Not the version in their AJFA album.)

Metallica is overrated and the new albums sucks. The first time i heard it i thought the same things you say in the video (everything sounds the same…pentatonics etc)

When I was learning guitar, I thought Kirk Hammett was a good guitarist, the more I grow up the more I realize how bad a guitarist he is, technically, melodically.
