Just tried the pinky grip, almost immediately got a hand cramp. So, y'know.

Index Finger- Safe, helpful and a sign of weakness
Pinky Finger- Weak, Risks splinter therefore, a display of power and confidence

Also your pinky is very important for grip strength. one study showed it was responsible for 1/3 of your overall grip strength.

I have very large hands so I opt for the metal hand grip, with both pinky and index extended, especially on the smaller planes!

That pinky grip just screams "splinters" to me

Alternate suggestion. Grip with your middle finger stuck out to establish dominance in the shop.

I tried it with my hacksaw earlier and it did make a difference of how intuitive it was to control the angle of the cut. Thanks for you tips ❤

The pinky grip seems like a good way to jam your pinky into things too, it's so close to the work surface.

Thanks again, delightful baldman. Your videos remind me fondly of my late father, who was a carpenter.

The pinky grip looks like a good way to get an errant splinter.

One thing to know is that the pinky is insanely strong and important for having a stable grip. Try a grip strength test with your pinky extended vs your index finger extended. The pinky extended grip will generally be weaker.

I can see using pinkie grip to put the side of the palm on the wood for a bit of extra sensory information, but only on wood i really trusted

As a tiny handed person with room to spare, I have literally never thought about this

Grip the plane like you grip your rifle. I absolutely see how this can make your plane much more steady and accurate.

For me, I grip it with my index extended, and my pinky on the sole of the plane. I just find it more comfortable, as it still feels a bit cramped in the handle

God I love Rex's goofy humor.

Wait, it's it "Rex's"? Or would it just be Rex'?
